Mr. President: I voted for you twice and would do so again. While your deportment and tweeting were trying, your policies were stellar from a conservative perspective. Your accomplishments are impressive, especially given the fierceness of the opposition. Your work ethic is amazing. Your refusal to be cowed in the face of 24/7 attacks inspired awe. You are made of sterner stuff than most folks. You brought America energy independence. You were the first president since Eisenhower not to engage in a foreign war. You brokered four Middle East Peace Accords and received three nominations for the Nobel Prize. Your policies lowered unemployment to historic lows, especially among Blacks and Latinos. You exposed the deep, widespread and long-standing corruption in the swamp that is Washington DC. You managed to get members of NATO to pay dues. You stood up to China, bringing it to the bargaining table. You lowered taxes and increased the standard deduction on IRS returns for married couples. During your tenure the stock market rose to record levels, positively impacting the retirement accounts of tens of millions of citizens. You managed to build hundreds of miles of wall at the southern border despite the roadblocks put in place by the opposition. You fast-tracked the development of multiple COVID vaccines. Sometimes what I think enrages the swamp rats most is how someone without political experience did it all so much better and faster than they do. They had to resort to mail-in voting, banned in most countries, to depose you. You led America’s last stand against socialism, although I hope to be proven wrong about that. Thank you. All the best to you and your family.
I was back at my usual book nook today. Conditions were tough, the wind blowing along Avenue Z in its usual fashion, the sunshine disappearing halfway through the session. My thanks to local porter Robert, who dropped off about 40 hardcovers in Russian, and to the three kind folks who combined to buy five of them; and to the woman who purchased 4 Blondes by Candace Bushnell. The session ended on an interesting note, as a thirty-something guy whose appearance screamed alt lifestyle flipped out when he spotted a familiar face on the cover of one of the books, a Russian actress/diva who he said died at 75 last year. He brought up one of her videos on his phone — and a nude shot of her at age 74! Why didn’t I ask her name? Duh! To my chagrin, I was unable to track her down on the web. Was she perhaps a transvestite? As soon as I got home I gargled with mouthwash, as the guy wasn’t wearing a mask and mine was, as usual, around my neck. At one point we were less than two feet apart. Dumb. Amazing how one could lose sight of the pandemic given the death toll. I hope the cigarette he had clenched between his teeth killed germs.
