13 & More

Bad things that happened on Friday the 13th: The Germans bombed Buckingham Palace 9/13/’40; Kitty Genovese was murdered in Queens, New York, 3/13/’64. It was alleged there were many witnesses who refused to come to her defense. This has been disproved over time, but not before it became part of accepted lore, a national story.
Here are celebrities born on Friday the 13th: Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Steve Buscemi (LOL), Darius Rucker, Kat Dennings, Lili Reinhart, Kate Walsh, Max Weinberg, Christopher Plummer.
Good that happened: Welcome to Hollywoodland sign erected 7/’23. Howard Hughes’ H-1 Racer sets a world airspeed record (352.39 MPH) 9/’35. Black Sabbath’s eponymous album, regarded as the first in heavy metal, released 2/’70. Super Mario Bros. released 9/’85.
Only one film in the series was released on Friday the 13th — Part III, 5/’83.
Oh, yeah — 13x7=28, according to Abbott and Costello.

Food for thought, headline from nypost.com: “Government censorship is a greater threat than ‘disinformation’.” I always side with free speech, but sometimes it’s scary.

Headline from newsmax.com: “Interest on US Debt Tops $1 Trillion for the First Time.” Yes, it seems insane. For the umpteenth time — when is it going to pose major problems?

Go figure. The overwhelming consensus about the recent debate was that Harris won, Trump had a bad night. The polls are showing otherwise. They show the voters that count most, independents, sided with DT. This morning, talk radio host Mark Simone speculated that the former president’s angry demeanor resonated with the undecideds, as many are pissed at what’s happening in America. I am always pessimistic when it comes to politics. I still believe mail-in voting will carry the day for the Dems.

Headline from foxnews.com: “Robots replace human window washers on skyscrapers.” I hate to see anyone lose a job, but this makes sense.

FN out of Texas: “Vulnerable Dem senator touts border wall in new ad despite previously dismissing it: ‘Waste of money’.” Par for the friggin’ political course.

Ho-hum, another gorgeous day. Unfortunately, the Anti-Inflation Book Shop didn’t do much business. My thanks to The Quiet Man, who broke the shutout by buying four CDs, two by Hanson. The book giveaway is still going well. I’ll add to the freebies in the AM on my way to Stop n Shop.
