It will be hard to top this nypost.com headline as the most amusing of the day: “Hunter Biden cried poverty but still flew to his child-support hearing on a private jet for at least $55K.”
Attention writers of thrillers, NYP headline: “Orca-strated attack: Killer whales teaching their young to attack ships in Europe: witnesses.” At least three boats sunk along the coast of Spain. And this from foxnews.com: “WATCH: Killer whales ram vacationing couple relaxing on boat in hour-long attack.” Photo from Google Images:
From FN: “Russian invasion kills 42K Ukrainian civilians since start of war, US officials say.” Sacrificed to Mad Vlad’s ego.
RIP author Martin Amis, 73. Born in Oxford, educated there, he was the son of writer Kingsley Amis, who has scores of titles in all categories on his Wiki profile. Martin was not as prolific but still has an impressive body of work: 15 novels, seven short story collections, two screenplays, eight works of non-fiction. Married twice, he was a father of five. In 2010 he bought a house in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. His political opinions drew fire from the right and left. A lifelong smoker, he was taken by cancer.
It was as if people knew it was my birthday today at the floating book shop. My thanks to all the buyers. Here’s what sold: 18 CDs, four titles in Russian; two novels by George R.R. Martin; The Labyrinth Makers by Anthony Price; Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan; Canyons by Gary Paulsen; a sci-fi short collection of Nebula Award Winners; The Barnstormers in Oz by Philip José Farmer; Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz; The Pigman by Paul Zindel; Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion; Timeline by Michael Crichton; and The Secrets of the FBI by Ronald Kessler. And when I got home the prime parking spot was wide open. I am blessed… And how did I treat myself on my birthday? — a cholesterol laden egg salad sandwich.
