On my 74th birthday, here is stuff that caught my attention:

It’s not total darkness in Ukraine: Kharkiv newlyweds, photo by Valentyn Ogirenko/Reuters, posted at theguardian.com:

The left has new hope in its effort to derail DT — a documentary about his days as host of The Apprentice. It received a ten-minute standing O at Cannes. It mentions liposuction and rape.

Fodder for thriller writers. Headline from nypost.com: “Google, Meta warned that undersea internet cables at risk for Chinese espionage: report.”

Excerpts from an NYP editorial: more than “… 75 percent of the nearly 250,000 migrants who illegally crossed the border were released into the U.S. with nothing more than a notice to appear at some future date in immigration court.” And: Border agents suffer “… A suicide rate more than double that among all law enforcement agencies.”

Common sense from the National Review’s Jim Geraghty in response to the uproar concerning the comments of Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker: “How many people make major life decisions about marriage or kids based upon what their commencement speaker recommends?”

I hate beer. Maybe that’s why I hadn’t noticed this brand until today. Photo from Google Images:

Among the many things one should forgo after a certain age is cake. I’ll take a slice from this one:

It was a picture-perfect day, but it didn’t lead to a bonanza for the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to the gentleman who purchased The Magus by John Fowles and Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke, and to the woman who settled her tab.
