83 years ago today the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, a move that would eventually cost them dearly. 2403 perished, many more were wounded. Photo from Google Images:

Correction: yesterday I mentioned I hoped President Trump would pardon Daniel Penny, if found guilty. An old friend pointed out that the president can pardon only a federal crime. It would be up to the gutless Governor Hochul. Thanks, Frank.

From an article by George King, BBC News, at msm.com, edited by yours truly: Vicky Ball, 48, a teacher at the university level in the UK, proudly posted on X after selling two of her books at a recent event. The post has garnered more than 24 million views, been shared 31,000 times, received over 740,000 likes, and shot her first novel up the teen/YA chart. Kudos, Madam. May it happen to an author near and dear to me. Photo from GI:

Good news from the University of Michigan, headline from nypost.com: “Top university becomes latest college to roll back DEI initiatives as trend goes national.” May it continue.

RIP actor Mark Withers, 77, who succumbed to cancer. Born in Binghamton, he earned a football scholarship to Penn St.. There are 54 titles under his name at IMDb, most in TV, career spanning 1977–2019. He appeared in many primetime favorites, including Dynasty, Dallas, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and Frasier, to name five. He was active in L.A. theater. He did many commercials: McDonald’s, Disney World, Sears, South Western Bell, Ford Aerostar, Crest, Lifesavers, Folger’s, Ore-Ida, Nature’s Own Bread, Gain, Irish Spring and Lincoln Mercury. Married twice, he was a father of two. Well done, Sir. Photo from GI:

Strange. A few months ago my wireless mouse became finicky. I switched to a wired one and things were fine until it too became resistant. I started going back and forth between the two, which was a pain in the butt. One day it occurred to me to unplug the wired one after each of my web shifts. Hoping I haven’t jinxed myself, it worked like a charm. Flash forward to three weeks ago when my PC performance slowed to a crawl after about an hour of use. It led me to question a representative in the local T-Mobile store, and she exchanged my several-generations-old receiver with one that is up to date. The problem persisted. It then occurred to me-Duh!-to unplug it after each session, as I do the mouse. Voila! Last night I was again able to play an iheart music feed in the background while I played solitaire, then did trivia at sporcle.com. May it continue. Now I think the problem was the computer all along.

The wind backed off today and the Anti-Inflation Book Shop was able to get in a full session, as the sun provided enough warmth to negate the cold temperature. My thanks to the donors and buyers. Here’s what sold: two kids’ books, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams; The Low Carb Cook Book; three DVDs, including Jack Frost (1979); a hardcover in Russian. The highlight was a hug from Barb, who has begun her rehab after a second back surgery. And Sam’s back from his cruise of the Caribbean, which he and his Mrs. enjoyed.
