A Day Like Any Other
Maybe it’s me but lately every day in America seems like April Fools Day. A lot of what’s happening doesn’t seem possible. I tried to find a particular quote that went something like: Everyone dons the fool’s cap and bells at some point, but came up empty. I’m pretty sure it’s not Shakespeare. I’ll just go with the popular song by The Main Ingredient: “Everybody plays the fool sometime/There’s no exception to the rule.” — J. R. Bailey, Rudy Clark, Ken Williams.
Headline from foxnews.com: “Dem-run cities that slashed police funding last year have seen uptick in murders, other violent crimes.” Duh!
The Texas Rangers MLB team is opening a big test lab. The franchise will allow full capacity attendance, 40,300. Fans must wear masks and only remove them when eating or drinking. I wouldn’t go. Then again, given the way pro sports has bowed to BLM, I wouldn’t go to a game even if paid handsomely.

One of my current mantras is: If not, so what? That was one of my thoughts as I headed to the Voorhees Pharmacy, a ten block walk from my residence. I was told it had the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. I prefer the one-shot. I expected the supply would have been used up yesterday, as that of another pharmacy had been the day before. There was only one customer in the store and he was making a purchase, so I figured it was all gone. The kid at the counter, who seemed in his 20’s, said it was limited. I wasn’t sure if he was referring to the 63% efficiency of the shot. Then he mumbled about having a lot of elderly patients. “I’m 70,” I said. He was unmoved and wanted to put me on a list. “No, thank you,” I said. I hope it wasn’t a case of not having the right accent.
The floating book shop was more of a fool’s errand today. I opened two hours late due to the sprinkles. As the rain left, the wind kicked in, and I stood with my back to the side of the bus shelter for all but the setting up and breaking down of the display. My thanks to Stu and Janet, who purchased a Bible, the only sale of the session. I had a visit from Matt, who filled me in on the progress of the house he bought in the Hamptons. He and his wife are very happy. Alice also stopped to chat, saying she had to call her brother to come bail her out, as she was arrested for drug possession. “April Fools!” she cried. Got me. One size fits all.
“The fool who persists in his folly will become wise.” — William Blake. I sure hope so.
