Down goes another liberal icon! AOC has dubbed FDR’s New Deal racist. Move over Rover — and let AOC take over!

RIP Hockey Hall of Famer Harry Howell, 86, who anchored the New York Rangers’ defense for 17 seasons, serving as Captain for a time. Most of his career preceded the change that the high-flying Bobby Orr brought to the game. Howell played with finesse, rarely delivering hard body checks or fighting or drawing penalties, and it often frustrated fans. I was in the blue seats in the old Garden when someone shouted: “Hit ‘im wit’ ya pocketbook, Harry.” Although absurd, it was funny. After leaving the Broadway Blues, Howell played another eight seasons, three in the WHA, where he served as a player-coach. The seven-time all-star amassed 101 goals and 360 assists. He is the all-time leader in games played for the Rangers, 1160. Well done, sir. Thank you.

My thanks to Robert, a local porter, who donated a large batch of books, almost all of them weighty non-fiction on philosophy, psychology, faith, art and humor. Thanks also to Ira, who bought a huge tome on art and two pictorials on Einstein; and to the woman who purchased three novels in Russian; and to the two others who selected one each; and to the young man who chose two self-help books.
