How’s this for discouraging? The slime who committed the latest London terrorist attack, killing three, was let out of prison after serving only eight years of a 16-year multiple count sentence, believed rehabilitated.

And this from an article at foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: Electronic Benefits Transfer cards are issued to needy citizens who qualify, and replenished monthly. On 18 different occasions in 2019, a Massachusetts EBT card was swiped in Hawaii, including one used twice at a posh island resort where rooms are $800 a night. Sadly, this is behavior many expect of government workers.

From nypost.com, edited by yt: Doctors at Duke University have managed to re-animate the heart of a deceased donor by using an artificial circulatory mechanism that continues pumping blood through the organ while it’s outside the body. It was immediately transplanted into a patient, and the procedure seems successful. This may be a major step toward reducing the current donor organ shortage. Previously, the heart had to be taken from a donor still alive but brain dead.

NFL: Dare the haters believe this is the end of the Patriots? I’ll believe it when I see it… Jaguars fans booed QB Nick Foles off the field. Maybe the team should think of trading the Super Bowl MVP back to Philadelphia straight up for Carson Wentz, although the latter played well this weekend. The Eagles finally put up a lot of points — and their defense collapsed… The Chargers remain the most absurd team in NFL history, always finding a bizarre way to lose… How Jets-like to end a three-game winning streak to the previously winless Bengals. QB Andy Dalton returned just in time after a months-long absence to torment Gang Green… The Seahawks continue their amazing run in close games, nine of twelve decided by a TD or less… The Giants may not be the worst team in the NFL, but they’re darn close… Although the Buccaneers are only 5–7, I believe they are on the upswing… Was the Ravens-49ers matchup a preview of the Super Bowl?

Since the city of Oakland is doing little to stop the spread of homeless encampments, business owners have taken action to keep vehicles from being parked in front of their establishments. Here’s a pic:

I hated to give up one of the two prime parking spots at my usual book nook, but it was too messy and windy there today. As I expected, the area at my alternate spot, which get the sun most of the day, was dry. Unfortunately, there were two large vehicles parked in front of the bank, as new windows are being installed. I wasn’t able to display the wares properly. My thanks to the gentleman who bought Devastating Losses: How Parents Cope With the Death of a Child to Suicide or Drugs by Carol E. Jordan MS, William Feigelman Ph.D., et al., and to the young woman who overcompensated me for The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street by Susan Jane Gilman and a novel by Elizabeth Goudge; and to the gregarious gentleman who donated a number of books and DVDs.
