Airborne

Bad news in a nypost.com article by Betsy McCaughey. What makes it especially discouraging is that her work is almost always solid, intelligent. She cites research by 239 scientists who say the virus is now airborne and can travel up to 30 feet. If so, the standard spacing of six feet is no longer adequate, a joke, really. I suppose I will soon be infected. Unless the death rate rises, I’m not going back into lockdown and I’m only wearing a mask in stores or when a customer wearing one wants to do business. Today an elderly gentleman I hadn’t seen in months told me he tested positive for the antibodies while in Florida, even though he never felt sick. I hope the same applies to me.

I’m tempering my hopes regarding the investigations involving the deep state plot to take down President Trump. I doubt anyone will be brought to justice, especially Obama or Hillary. Whether or not Biden wins the presidency, his family will laugh all the way to the bank, never called to account for the billions in corruption it took home from Ukraine, Iraq and who knows where else. And I am skeptical that Ghislaine Maxwell will ever name names. Financial and personal corruption is ingrained in politics and crosses party lines. The swamp will circle the wagons to protect its own. How I would love to be wrong about all that. Maybe I’m allowing McCaughey’s news to affect my state of mind.

We desperately need a laugh, which I hope will be provided by one of my all-time favorite pics. If only we could read Sophia’s mind:

Business has gone in reverse at the floating book shop. I conjured the rationale my mind comes up with whenever there has been only one sale: “At least it wasn’t zero.” My thanks to the gentleman who bought a hardcover in Russian, and to my constant benefactress, who showed up with a handful of non-fiction — even though I asked her to wait until next week; and to Wolf, who gave me a huge tome on the history of WWII; and to the woman who donated a self-help and a mob book.
