I’m reading a book on the music business that I will blog about when done, but I couldn’t resist a nugget that suggests the following, composed by a 19-year-old Ike Turner, is the first ever rock n roll record:

In the commentary below the song, a guy says this one by Louis Jordan, issued in 1945, is the first. No doubt others would cite other songs. As for the two in question, judge for yourself:

Last night, for the first time, Movies!, channel 5–2 on ota in NYC, disappointed me. It ran A Fish Called Wanda (1988). I was surprised, as it’s a bit risque` in parts, and also un-PC in its depiction of the stutterer played by Michael Palin. While Jamie Lee Curtis’ character is upstairs in the loft of the dwelling of a friend of John Cleese’s character, the latter is disrobing, preparing to get jiggy with the former. Suddenly a family of six enters. The station cut to commercial as Cleese covers his crotch with a photo of the woman. I was sure there was more to the scene but, distrusting my memory at this stage of my life, I decided to see if a clip was posted at youtube. Sure enough… Such butchery is something Cosi-TV would do, a station obviously interested only in filthy luchre. What I love about Movies! is that it seems to be run by cinephiles. I’d rather it stick to showing old, unedited fare than chop up newer works. I’m pretty sure I got back in time from channel surfing to check if the rest of the scene, about a minute and which was tame, had been cut.
Although I believe Quid Pro Joe is a mean old cuss and master thief, I see no point in heckling a guy in his mental state, although it is refreshing to hear it from folks in blue states, and amusing to hear there have been vulgar chants at college football games, none of which the mainstream media is reporting. Also, it’s being said that he alone gave the order for American forces to bail from Afghanistan before all the civilians were evacuated. Does that make sense when it often appears Biden is doing the bidding of handlers? I suspect the others were behind the plan and, understandably, do not want it known. It would be easier and less damaging to blame a single person than a progressive cabal.
At first it seemed Australia’s lockdowns had defeated Covid. The Delta strain has become a new challenge. Here are excerpts from an op-ed piece by Rich Lowry at nypost.com: “The state of South Australia has developed an app to enforce home quarantines. As a news report explains, ‘The app will contact people at random asking them to provide proof of their location within 15 minutes.’ If they fail to do so, the health department will notify the police, who will send officers to check on the malefactor.” (Geez, shades of the USSR). “Tens of thousands of Australians have been trapped overseas, unable to come back home because of monthly limits on how many people can return.” (I had no idea)… And in a related headline from newsmax.com: “New COVID Cases 300 Percent Higher This Labor Day Than Last Year.” I wish I knew what to say in terms of handling the pandemic. I’m leaning toward opening everything up and living with the consequences. Also, I hope the powers that be figure out if the booster is necessary by the end of January, which would mark the eighth month since I had the shot. Right now, as usual in all things Covid, opinions are all over the place.

As she has many times in the past, my constant benefactress bailed out the floating book shop today. She donated six books, four of them art pictorials, three of which sold. My thanks, and to the young woman who bought the one on Picasso; and to the Frenchman, who purchased one on Whistler and two general collections; and to Wolf, who donated titles in Russian that have Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford on the covers; and to the woman who delivered two paperbacks in that language.
