All Souls Day
And we move on to All Souls Day. My mom lit candles for all those who had passed.

Given that politicians running for elected office seem to talk non-stop during a campaign, they’re bound to say something stupid. This is a doozy. Headline from nypost.com: “Tim Walz refers to Elon Musk as ‘that gay guy’ — his campaign claims he misspoke.” Lotta misspoke from Dems lately.
Need inspiration? From NYP: “Former ballerina running NYC marathon 9 months after brain surgery: ‘This is my redemption lap’.” Kudos, Madam. Leanna Scaglione, 32, photo from NYP:
Bipartisanship, from NYP: “Many Democrats, Republicans would abstain from sex to ensure an election win: survey.” For how long?
Full agreement with this NYP headline: “Harris would be as much a figurehead as Biden — and we’d be ruled by the swamp.”
Born in Tennessee, Kevin Wilson earned an MFA at the University of Florida. He’s had short stories published in celebrated literary zines and anthologies. His first book, Tunneling to the Center of the Earth, was an award-winning short story collection. He has had another published and four novels. His latest work, Now Is Not the Time to Panic (2022), recently came my way. It’s the story of two awkward 16-year-old outsiders, a male aspiring artist and female writer, set just before the internet and cell phones broke big, told from the point of view of the girl. Although they experience their first kiss, it’s not really about first love. The thought of sex makes each uncomfortable. How refreshing in this age, although, personally, at that age sex was about all I thought about. And that isn’t the only aspect that makes the novel different. The pair create a poster, make copies, and secretly put them up everywhere in the small Tennessee town. It creates a sensation that spreads worldwide and ignites wild interpretation and unfortunate unintended consequences. 20 years later, the secret is discovered by a reporter who wants to out the creators… It isn’t easy to come up with an idea that hasn’t been done to death, but Wilson has. I enjoyed the story and liked the characters, who are well drawn, realistic. The prose and dialog seem true to an intelligent person of 16. The 243 pages of the large paperback edition read like far less. 2800+ users at Amazon have rated Now Is Not…, forging to a consensus of 3.9 on a scale of five. For a change, I’ll go higher than the consensus and say four. I cherry pick this thought: “Maybe everything that has ever happened and ever will happen is some dumb mistake.” Wilson, a dad of two, is married to a poet. He teaches writing at Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee. Kudos, Sir. Photo from Google Images:
Bombs away today at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. A guy wanted to bring two bags of hardcovers in Russian. I asked him to bring five books per day instead. He was not accommodating, and I caved. I left two bags in the garden. If somebody spots and takes them, so be it. My thanks to Cabbie, who bought The Woods by Harlan Coben, and to Kim, who purchased Divergent by Veronica Roth; and to my Constant Benefactress, who insisted on paying for The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood despite donating more costume jewelry.
