RIP acting legend James Earl Jones, 93. Born in Mississippi, he grew up in Michigan, raised by his maternal grandparents. He overcame stuttering. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He was a U.S. Army Vet, serving in Korea during the war. He was comfortable on the big and small screen and the stage. There are 190 titles under his name at IMDb, screen career spanning 1952–2022. Everyone knows his most popular roles, the amazing voiceovers, so I’ll mention the lesser known: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), two episodes of the Tarzan TV series; four episodes of Franco Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth; author Alex Haley in Roots: The Nest Generation; Conan the Barbarian (1982); one episode of Law & Order; three episodes of The Simpsons; The Angriest Man in Brooklyn (2014). He was nominated for only one Oscar, The Great White Hope (1971), but received an honorary one in 2012. He was nominated for eight primetime Emmys, winning Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries, Heat Wave 1990, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Gabriel’s Fire in ’91. He won a daytime Emmy in 2000 for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Special, Summer’s End. Nominated for three Grammys, he won Best Spoken Word in ’77 for Great American Documents. Nominated for four Tonys, he won for The Great White Hope in ’69 and Fences in ’87, and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. He is one of the few entertainers to have won all four awards, EGOT. He received numerous other accolades. Surprisingly, he was a member of the NRA. Here’s a quote attributed to him: “The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise, they will win and the decent people will lose.” Married twice, the second time from 1982 until his beloved’s passing in 2016, he was a father of one. He was American royalty. Awesome, Sir. Thank you. Photo from Google Images:

Final passage of a nypost.com editorial: “Yet Hamas has no red lines. Russia has no red lines. Only our democratic allies have red lines, under Biden and Kamala Harris. And we wonder why terrorism and authoritarianism are on the march.”

Cute headline from newsmax.com: “Texas Dem Tries To Generate Buzz in Pro-Weed Campaign.”

Safe sex? Headline from NM: “Lawsuit: Trojan Condoms Contain ‘Forever Chemicals’.” Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

From NM: “Sen. Marshall: Expand Trump Assassination Attempt Probe.” No, concentrate on getting him elected.

Liberals now love Dick Cheney! Hooray! Remember when he was a racist warmonger?

Good luck DT. Since I already know where the candidates stand, I will not be watching the debate. No matter what happens, I’ll be surprised if the mainstream media doesn’t declare Harris the winner.

Another gorgeous day, perfect for curbside business. It looked like it would be a disappointing session of the Anti-Inflation Book Shop until Wolf came late and bought ten items, a blend of Russian and English, books and media. My thanks, Sir, and to Cabbie, who purchased Righteous Prey by John Sandford; and to the woman who chose Room by Emma Donoghue. A woman gave me six manuscripts her husband has written — in Russian. I doubt any will sell. The box of non-fiction I put out yesterday morning was emptied except for one hardcover. We’ll see how the fiction I left this morning does.
