Amusing Tidbits
Fun story by Jesse O’Neill at nypost.com, in my own words: Two male German tourists were busted for riding along Venice’s Grand Canal on motorized surfboards. The mayor was outraged and offered a free dinner to anyone who identified the perps. They were fined more than $1500 each and booted from the city, shown no quarter despite the devices being electric. No word on if environmentalists will appeal.
Excerpt from NYP article by David Meyer: “Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers (D-Queens) made the promise to pump the brakes in April when a local news site caught her with a whopping 17 speeding tickets in 11 months.” She’s cut it back to only three in recent months.
Here’s another term to catch up on — catfishing, defined as “the process of luring someone into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona.” It’s not to be confused with ratfishing, communication with politicians.
Kudos to Amanda Devine, who in an op-ed piece points out how liberals now back the FBI to the tune of 81%.
Liz Cheney is deciding whether to run for president. We’re saved! Since it’s doubtful she will be taken seriously, her current Dem allies won’t have to attack with the same vitriol they applied to her father.
Headline from foxnews.com: “Putin offers $16,000 reward, honorary title to Russian women who have 10 children.” Way underpaid. One positive: he likely won’t be around by the time the kids are old enough for combat.
From FN: “Lisa Boothe questions why AG Garland waited 18 months to seize Mar-a-Lago documents: ‘Lacks logical reasoning’.” I’d guess it’s because nothing else is working in the endless push to derail Trump.
My thanks to the kind folks who bought, swapped and donated books on this beautiful day. The incoming and outgoing may have been dead even. Here’s what sold: six books in Russian, three DVDs in that language; a massive prayer book in Hebrew; Yoga for Women by Shakta Kaur Khalsa; Gods and Goddesses in Art and Legend by Herman Wechsler; Healing the Planet: One Patient at a Time: A Primer in Environmental Medicine by Jozef J. Krop; Teach Us to Sit Still: A Skeptic’s Search for Health and Healing by Tim Parks; A Peace to End All Peace: Creating the Modern Middle East, 1914–1922 by David Fromkin; The Time Traveler’s Guide to Elizabethan England and The Time Traveler’s Guide to Medieval England, both by Ian Mortimer; JFK for President: Photographs By Cornell Capa; Special Delivery and Fine Things, both by Danielle Steel; a Michael Jackson pictorial; and five paperbacks in The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine.
