Angels & Sinners

This nypost.com headline out of Nebraska is especially interesting in light of the student loan nonsense: “High school student denied her diploma over $15 fee from her freshman year: ‘You gon pay what you owe’.” That’s the way it used to be for most folks.

From NYP out of jolly ol’ England: “Wimbledon fans told to refrain from having sex in quiet rooms.” Prince Andrew must be devastated.

From NYP: “Stone cold: Customers urge Ben & Jerry’s boycott after company calls for US to return ‘stolen indigenous land’ on July 4th.” I haven’t bought any of their products for at least a decade. I haven’t bought Coke since its “Be Less White” nonsense.

Excerpts from NYP editorial: “New York again ‘ranks #1 in the nation’ on public-school spending: $26,571 per kid, ’85 percent above the national average of $14,347' — even as ‘student achievement is the lowest in history,…” “…state ranks 46th in the nation for 4th grade math and has demonstrated ‘no meaningful improvement’ in 4th or 8th grade reading or math for over a decade.” Solution? Lowering standards.

Good news out of the Windy City, headline from foxnews.com: “Chicago concealed carry holder foils late-night armed robbery attempt.” Suspect took three shots, still alive.

From an FN article by Kristine Parks: “Angel Studios’ Sound of Freedom took the top spot in sales July 4th, surpassing Disney’s widely panned Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The action film starring Jim Caviezel is based on the true story of former federal agent Tim Ballard and his mission to save children from human trafficking. On its first day, the film took the number one spot at the box office, grossing over $14 million through ‘pay it forward’ and direct box office sales. The film has reportedly earned nearly all of its budget back on its opening day.” The budget for the new Indy flick is estimated to have been $295 million. I hope it’s at least better than the dreadful Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). Here’s Caviezel in character, photo from Google Images:

The incoming dwarfed the outgoing today at the floating book shop. My thanks to the woman who delivered a cache of valuable kids’ books, and to the one who donated a slew of paperback best sellers in excellent condition; and to the gentleman who bought Edgar Winter’s White Trash LP on vinyl; and to Alice, who purchased Fall from Grace by Danielle Steel; and to Movie Buff, who chose Deadline by John Sandford.
