Another Day in the USA

From an article at newsmax.com: “A single page of artwork from a 1984 Spider-Man comic book sold at auction Thursday for a record $3.36 million.” What makes it so valuable? It introduces Spidey’s black suit, page 25 from Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars №8. Mike Zeck is the artist.

Circus headline from foxnews.com: “Democrats slammed for blocking Russia sanctions bill using filibuster they’ve decried as racist.” It’s wrong only when the other party uses it.

Also from FN, according to an article by Audrey Conklin, L.A. thieves are ransacking cargo trains, targeting packages from Amazon and UPS. I guess it’s okay as long as the value of the items is less than a grand.

How about this headline from FN: “Philadelphia carjackers shot by legally armed drivers 3 separate times so far in 2022.” That may be the only tactic that puts the kibosh on the practice. The hands of law enforcement are tied.

Students at Arizona St. U. have begun a hunger strike to protest congress’ failure to pass a voting rights bill. I wonder how many of them have to show ID at school functions and had to in order to receive the vax.

17-year-old Scoot Henderson, a Georgia basketball five-star high school junior, reclassified as a senior, which made him eligible for the pro G League. He signed a two-year contract rumored to be worth a cool million. He will be eligible for the NBA draft once he hits 19. Kudos for forgoing the phony one-and-done farce that is NCAA basketball.

I’d made a dumb mistake yesterday, telling people the floating book shop would be in the exact same place today unless it rained. I should’ve added “Or the wind is crazy,” as it often blows hard along Avenue Z. I had to keep almost everything in boxes. Even worse, I sat in the car for nearly the entire session, which I cut by a half hour. There was no schmoozing, only waving to passersby. I was sure it was going to be the first goose egg of 2002, but I got lucky late in the session when a young man rolled up on his bike and bought pictorials on U2 and DaVinci’s drawings. My thanks.
