Antidotes
Headline at nypost.com: “Pals host coronavirus-themed party with hazmat suits and Corona beer.” Kudos.
In an op-ed piece in the Post, Jonathan Podhoretz cites an ill omen for the President’s re-election. The turnout for the Michigan Democratic primary was unusually large, which the pundit believes threatens the ten thousand votes margin Trump won the state by in 2016. The only flaw in the piece is that there is no mention that Trump received 639,144 votes in that primary last night, and what it might mean regarding November.
I had an outside shot at eventually becoming a millionaire, but that now seems gone with the wind. But that’s only money. I’m rich in many other ways.
I’ll counter the ugliness of the news cycle with beautiful images. First up — Thomas Kincade’s Stillwater Cottage:
The rest are self explanatory:
The floating book shop had a theme song today. The Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I Go was constantly playing in my head as rain droplets fell, then stopped, then resumed, etc.. I surrendered after a little more than an hour. My thanks to the woman who bought a Russian-English dictionary, and to Marina, who insisted on paying for a novel in Russian despite donating three; and to Angelo, who showed just as I was about to get into my car. Yesterday he’d spotted The Art of Frugality — Spending Strategies In A Tight Economy by Wendi Meredith and M. Johnson but didn’t return in time to catch me. I dug it out of the trunk and asked for two bucks. He immediately violated the book’s principle, giving me ten, which made up for the early close. And my good luck continued as I gazed across the intersection and spotted a parking spot not in violation of tomorrow’s alternate side regulation — and it remained unoccupied while I waited for the light to change. And, when I arrived at the recycling center at Stop n Shop, there wasn’t a line. I wonder if those who pack it daily are leery of the close quarters. No such qualms in the store. When I noted the bustle and long lines, I turned around and headed to CVS, which was almost empty. Maybe S&S will be that way tomorrow.
