Sometimes it seems our country is intent on suicide. Headline from nypost.com: “Trouble spots: Map shows Chinese-owned farmland next to 19 US military bases in ‘alarming’ threat to national security: experts.” I hope I’m wrong in considering China a mortal enemy.
All the speculation on whether Biden will exceed expectations during the debate is meaningless. Those who don’t know where the candidates stand on the issues aren’t paying attention.
RIP actress Evans Evans, 91. Despite the odd name, she is likely unfamiliar to movie lovers. Born in West Virginia, she had a modest career, 27 titles under her name spanning 1957-’89. Most of her appearances were on the small screen. At least three came in notable works. She’s the fiancé of Gene Wilder’s character in Bonnie and Clyde (1967), whose car was stolen by the notorious pair and abandoned as soon as they learned they were in the presence of an undertaker. In 1961 she appeared in A Hundred Yards Over the Rim, season two, episode 23 of The Twilight Zone, where Cliff Robertson’s character leaves a wagon train and winds up in modern New Mexico. Evans plays the restaurant owner who gives the man out of time the penicillin that would save his son. In 1973 she played Cora, a hooker, in Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh, directed by her husband John Frankenheimer, who cast her in several of his films. They were married from 1963 until his death in 2002. She was a mom of two. Well done, Madam. Thank you. Here she is in character in B & C, photo from Google Images:

This was the first day the heat was tough. Fortunately, there was a pleasant breeze along Avenue Z that provided a bit of relief. I’m so surprised my apartment is still not affected. I hope I haven’t jinxed myself by saying that. My thanks to the woman who bought Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts, and to Wolf, who purchased four more CDs in Russian.
