Headline from newsmax.com: “Scientists Find Gene Protective Against Alzheimer’s.” The accompanying uncredited article cites a study of a man whose family was plagued by the dreaded affliction. Somehow he was not affected until his early 70’s, protected by a gene eggheads were able to track. Dementia is my greatest fear and I’m always hoping a cure will be found before I become a victim.

The floating book shop had to battle a stiff breeze on this otherwise beautiful day. The outgoing dwarfed the incoming — yay! My thanks to those who bought, swapped and donated. Here’s what sold: four books and six CDs in Russian, CDs by Carly Simon, Carole King & Bob Dylan; The Painted House by John Grisham; The Shadow by James Patterson & Brian Sitts; and Rise of the Tank: Armoured Vehicles and Their Use in the First World War by Michael Foley.
