“The sea was angry that day, my friends — like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli,” said George Costanza in the memorable whale episode of Seinfeld, written by Ron Hauge & Charlie Rubin. Here’s a pic of Tynemouth, which is in NE England, more than a five-hour drive from London. Photo from theguardian.com:

Headline from nypost.com: “Ukraine has reclaimed more than half of territory seized by Russia: US.” Good, but there’s still the worry of an endless stalemate.

From NYP: “NY Republicans move to ban public pot smoking over its ‘pungent odor’.” Too late, the cat’s already out of the bag. This would likely cause fistfights or worse.

Excerpts from an NYP editorial: “… eight of the top 10 states for jobs recovered since the pandemic began are led by Republican governors. All 10 have GOP-controlled state legislatures… Of the top 10 states with the lowest unemployment rates, eight are led by Republican governors.”

Another reason AI should be welcomed, headline from foxnews.com: “AI heart scan aims to catch blockages years before symptoms: ‘Unbelievable’.” Does this mean bots won’t kill everyone? I have no idea.

Here’s another new term — “Loud Quitting”, the short-sighted practice of turning to social media to announce one’s job intention. According to an article by Erica Lamberg at foxbusiness.com: “Gallup’s 2023 State of the Global Workplace Report says almost one in five employees engage in” it. Think it’ll come up in a job interview?

From FN, the long arm of the law: “Home-invasion murder suspect’s blood on doorknob led to arrest 4 decades later: police.” It happened in Minnesota. The perp is now 66.

A nice breeze along Avenue Z made the floating book shop a pleasant task on this day that was short of hot. My thanks to young Gareth, who bought five more business textbooks, and to the old-timer who purchased a paperback on healthy cooking; and to the Frenchman, who took home yet another tome on architecture; and to the woman who selected Mayo Clinic Book of Home Remedies: What to do for the Most Common Health Problems by Cindy A. Kermott M.D. M.P.H. and Martha P. Millman M.D. M.P.H.; and to the three ladies who between them donated six books.
