Art & Artifice

Headline from nypost.com: “Harvard refuses Trump admin demands to curtail antisemitism on campus — and loses over $2B in federal grants, contracts.” It has billions in trust it should use before government ever gives it money.

Headline from newsmax.com: “China Halts Exports of Rare Earth Minerals, Magnets.” This is why the USA should buy Greenland, where such minerals are in abundance.

While I believe things will improve dramatically in America, I will be surprised if prices at the supermarket fall back to pre-Covid levels. I expect only a small decrease. I don’t know if it qualifies, but I’m seeing more sales lately.

A lot more people than usual seem to be going wacky. The violent ones should be locked away. I don’t know what to do about the incendiary rhetoric and social media attacks from know-it-alls. What exactly did the five women who went into space do wrong? Granted, it’s small potatoes, but sheesh…

In case you didn’t know, from NYP: “Venus is direct, but Juno is retrograde in Scorpio…” You’ve been warned. Maybe this explains the behavior cited in the previous paragraph.

Headline from foxnews.com: “More babies born to women over 40 than teens for first time in US history.” My mom was 41 when I was born, obviously way ahead of her time.

From dhs.gov: Assistant Secretary Tricia Mclaughlin: “I think this illegal alien is exactly where he belongs — home in El Salvador. He was in our country illegally, he is from El Salvador, was born in El Salvador, and, oh, the media forgot to mention: He is a MS-13 gang member…” And it seemed impossible the mainstream media could go lower.

Among today’s celebrations, it’s World Art Day. Here’s Aiding a Comrade by Frederic Remington. Photo from Google Images:

RIP NFL stalwart TE Don Hasselbeck, 70, who apparently succumbed to a cardiac event. Born and raised in Cincinnati, he was All-City in both football and basketball, earning a scholarship to the University of Colorado, where he was second-team All-America in 1975. The Patriots selected him in the second round of the ’77 draft, the 52nd pick overall. He played for them six seasons. He had the great fortune to be traded to Oakland early in the ’83 season. The Raiders slaughtered the Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII, 38–9. Hasselbeck blocked an extra point in the victory. He finished his nine-year career playing a season each for the Vikings and Giants. Overall, he had 107 receptions and 18 TDs. Two of his three sons were NFL QBs, his third was a college WR. Well done, Sir. Photo from GI:

Once the sprinkles moved out it became a pleasant day. My thanks to The Quiet Man and Lou, who took home seven DVDs between them, and to the gentleman who donated ten paperback thrillers.
