Artists of Various Sorts

The most interesting items in today’s NY Post involve artists. Seven have asked the Whitney Museum to remove their work from a showcase because a member of its board is associated with a company that makes tear gas, which is used at the southern border. And if that isn’t ridiculous enough, consider this: Poet Daniel Thomas Moran, retired dentist, 62, has failed a litmus test. His nomination to become the poet laureate of New Hampshire has been withdrawn because of a poem he wrote about Condoleezza Rice in 2005. He denies that it is sexually laced and misogynistic. Six volumes of his work are available at Amazon. I was unable to find any reaction by Rice, and found only part of the piece in question, cleverly titled White on Rice:
Condoleeza are we
not the lucky ones,
Happier than a
barrel of nuns.
Like impetuous kids
we would have our fun
In the lavatory
on Air Force One.

Born in Wales, Lee Hadwin began drawing in his sleep when he was four. He has no inclination while awake. Experts who have studied the parasomniac have been unable to figure out the cause. Why bother? His paintings sell for thousands of dollars. The most he earned for one was $125,000. Here’s one for which I was unable to find a title:

I wonder what environmentalists would make of this headline from various news sources: “American crocodiles thriving outside nuclear plant.” They’re in canals in South Florida.

I keep getting signed up to dating sites, some of them naughty. Here’s one that had me chuckling: norwegianfriendsdate.com. How does a guy with a tag of Curious Sicilian get lumped with Nordics?

An Irishman has won the British Open, held for the first time in 68 years in Northern Ireland. Shane Lowry, 32, blew away the field, winning by six shots on a course three hundred miles from his home town, Clara. His previous highest finish in a major was a tie for second at the 2016 U.S. Open. Kudos, lad. Here he is with the coveted claret jug:

For the second straight day I set up shop in the blistering heat to accommodate Sasha’s grandma. She arrived with a cache of books as good as any that has ever come my way, several art pictorials, literary anthologies and books in Russian. My thanks, and also to the grandma who bought a beautifully illustrated children’s book on taking a ride on NYC trains; and to Monse`, who overcompensated me for a thick volume on art. Here’s Sasha’s gran:
