At Last
My latest book is finally available. I’m pretty sure it’s my last, although I’d certainly work with anyone writing a book who asked for help. I ordered a bunch of copies for street sale, a lot less than usual. I would be very surprised if there were much interest in it. I wanted to capture a day in the life of an average man. The tag line I will use most is: “Microcosm of the human condition, or portrait of a crazy person?” I hope only strangers will read it, as those close to me may be appalled at the occasional foul ramblings of my mind, although former co-workers mentioned briefly or not at all in Exchanges might get a kick out of the long segment that takes place in and around Four World Trade Center. My life’s work is complete. I wondered if I would be saddened. I’m not. I’m buoyed. I will spend the rest of my days promoting and selling my books. I’ve been so fortunate. Many artists leave this earth with so much left in the tank. Think of all those in the music world who died young. Here’s a link to the paperback, which has not yet been joined with the Kindle edition:

Stephen King took time out from continuing his massive canon — and Trump bashing — to explain his Oscar nominations votes: “I would never consider diversity in matters of art. Only quality.” Of course, this attracted a social media firestorm from those who insist on quotas. Kudos, sir. Please don’t walk it back.
Here’s a fun headline from nypost.com: “Burger King offers Prince Harry a job.” According to the article, like any prospective employee, he would have to work his way up from the bottom.
My thanks to The Quiet Man, who returned for another audio book, and to the gentleman who bought two books in Russian; and to Ira, who bought a pictorial on Ramses II and Wonder of Wonders: A Cultural History of Fiddler on the Roof by Alisa Solomon. As I was packing up, Jeff, a fellow Exchange alumni, showed up. His dad, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, passed away a few months ago. Jeff kept a journal of the experience, and wants to publish it as a tribute, and wants help transcribing it. Had I not been working on Vito’s Day when he first asked my help, I would have done it. I suggested he consult google. He found someone immediately, turned over the journal, and waited for a response. None came. The guy turned out to be a dud. Maybe he was simply looking to pilfer a promising moneymaker. Fortunately, the journal was returned, and I told Jeff I’m willing to help now that I’m free. Funny how things work out.
