Back in Action
Since this morning, I was without the internet until a half hour ago. It took a number of reboots to get up and running, but I think the key factor may have been plugging into a different socket. Whatever, just glad to be back.
This lovely woman hasn’t cut her hair in 26 years. U don’t get it — imagine the maintenance — but it’s a neat pic, from the New York Post :
Friday night’s movie fix, courtesy of Netflix by mail, was interesting if not totally satisfying. Wander Darkly (2020) is the story of the rocky relationship between an unmarried couple, parents of a newborn. A serious car accident has them examining their union. Sienna Miller and Diego Luna are outstanding as the leads. Their performances are the film’s best aspect. It is told in non-linear style and is often confusing, intentionally, I assume, as the characters are unsure themselves of what’s what. The flick is a tweener, serious theme, supernatural elements. Hollywood vets Beth Grant, 262 titles since ’79, and Brett Rice, 162 since ’82, play her parents. The movie was written and directed by Long Island’s Tara Miele, who has eleven titles under her name at IMDb, which include two shorts and several TV shows. There are no box office numbers on the flick. 1200+ users at IMDb have rated Wander Darkly, forging to a consensus of 5.8 on a scale of ten. I believe it would appeal more to those who appreciate a serious look at a relationship. I’d guess fans of supernatural fare would be disappointed. Here are the leads in character:
Very sad headline from nypost.com: “CDC’s grim statistic: NYC overdose deaths spike 36 percent.”
Here’s an interesting headline from NYP: “Ric Flair helps host fundraiser for Senate candidate Herschel Walker.” Woooooo!
Not being able to set up in front of the bank on Saturdays is a pain in the butt, but the floating book shop soldiers on despite awkward parking spots. My thanks to whoever purchased the print version of Billionths of a Lifetime at Amazon, and to Bill Brown, author of Words and Guitar: A History of Lou Reed’s Music and other fine books, who bought the DVD of Almost Famous (2000) and a John LeCarre thriller; and to the gentleman who took home two books in Russian, one a translation of LeCarre; and to the elderly woman who delivered her last load of Russian books, about 25 this afternoon, 100 or so in total. She is not in her 70’s, as I’d assumed, but 85! Bless her kind heart.
