RIP Jimmy Buffet, 76, who succumbed to cancer. Born in Mississippi, he was the icon of the devoted fan base known as “Parrotheads.” He earned a Bachelor’s in History at the University of Southern Mississippi. He struggled for years, even resorting to busking. His breakout came in 1977 with the release of his seventh album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, which features the enduring Margaritaville, which hit #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977. Time has only bolstered its status in the American song canon, and it has no doubt been downloaded an astronomical number of times. In all Buffett released 29 studio albums, nine compilations, 14 live albums, eight specialty albums, and 67 singles. Eight albums went gold, nine platinum, estimated total sales more than 20 million. He was also a highly successful businessman, a restauranteur, casino owner, alcohol and cannabis wiz, net worth estimated at a billion. There are 18 titles under his name at IMDb in the category of Actor, eight as Producer. He appeared in seven episodes of the latest Hawaii Five-0, as well as Repo Man (1984), Cobb (1994) and Jurassic World (2015). Wiki lists 50 TV appearances overall. His first marriage was brief, his second lasted from 1977 until his death, surviving a long separation. He was a father of three. He was about as successful as anyone ever was, surviving even a plane crash and a fall from a stage. He was a ray of sunshine who brought joy to millions, and his big hit is likely to endure as long as mankind does. Awesome, Sir. Photo from Google Images:

I don’t think much of Nikki Haley, as she seems a political creature, but she got off a great zinger yesterday. Headline from foxnews.com: “GOP presidential candidate calls Senate ‘most privileged nursing home in the country’.” Kudos.

I’m skeptical of this nypost.com headline, but love the caption below it: “Up in smoke: NYC’s disgusting pot stench is keeping tourists away.” “Kathy Hochul and Eric Adams, Gov. Cheech and Mayor Chong, did not help matters.” The new marijuana laws are a constant source of amusement.

Not much action at the floating book shop on this gorgeous day. My thanks to the gentleman who bought Troubled Waters (Destroyer Series, №133)
by Richard Sapir and Warren Murphy, and to the elderly woman who purchased The MacKade Brothers: Devin and Shane by Nora Roberts.
