RIP Ginger Baker, 80, legendary drummer of Cream and a host of other bands. Although the volatile Londoner considered himself a jazz musician, he was a member of two of rock’s most renowned bands, the other Blind Faith, dubbed a “Super Group” by the press, as it included Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and other luminaries. He also led Ginger Baker’s Air Force, which released two discs. His Wiki profile lists 17 solo albums in his name, in addition to his eight more with Cream, and a ton with other groups. Of Cream’s four studio albums, the first and last, Fresh Cream and Goodbye, went gold, Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire platinum. The lone Blind Faith record also went platinum. With bandmates Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton, Baker was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He was the subject of two documentaries, and released his own instructional video. Well done, sir. When Chris Ash was fired recently as head Rutgers football coach, I failed to notice who was named as his successor. Nunzio Campanile has been handed the reins of the disastrous program. Good luck, goombah. You’re gonna need it.

Business has been so good at the floating book shop lately that, should it keep up, I may soon have to make bank deposits. Then again, I’m starting to run low on stuff people want most. My thanks to the young woman who bought three kids books and The South Beach Diet Cookbook by Arthur Agatston; and to the young man who went for the massive The Dark Tower: The Dark Tower VII by Stephen King; and to the young woman who selected The Fault in Our Stars by John Green; and to the two women who purchased four books in Russian between them; and to the young man who took home two copies of The Dash: Making a Difference with Your Life by Linda Ellis and Mac Anderson, each with a different cover; and to the young mom who donated a dozen books, most in Russian.
