Bits & Pieces

The picture below is from nypost.com:

Headline from nypost.com: “If protesters can march, why can’t businesses open?” The same reason many do not have to wear masks.

Which is sadder, this headline itself or the fact that it is not even remotely surprising? — “New York Times changes headline following pressure from Democrats.”

Headlines don’t get any better than this, from foxnews.com: “Ex-Baltimore mayor, once convicted of embezzlement, now favorite to fill seat of mayor convicted of fraud.” Is it any surprise that certain cities haven’t changed for the better?

Why hasn’t Governor Cuomo taken to the street ala Rudy Giuliani? Also MIA — Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. May as well be paging Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard.

Last week Twitter flagged one of President Trump’s tweets. The company did not flag any of the following: “Let’s riot and raid Santana Row.” “Loot and protest santana row. EAT THE RICH.” “Next looting stop: SANTANA ROW IN SAN JOSE.” Here’s a bit of that dastardly stretch:

From an article at NYP, edited by yours truly: Former Obama adviser David Axelrod and Hillary Clinton shared the same image of the darkened White House, calling it “perfect symbolism.” Turns out the photo passed off as a metaphor for Trump’s apathy toward police brutality and racism was actually from the Obama years… Another piece quotes the head of the Minneapolis police union. In 2009 George Floyd was sentenced to five years for assault and robbery. Prior to that he’d been convicted of charges ranging from theft with a firearm to drugs. Does that excuse the incarcerated officer’s behavior? No, but I prefer full disclosure, not platitudes. I applaud those who have refused to be forced into ridiculous commentary on the issue. Racism is bad — who knew?

45 police officers have been killed in the U.S. so far this year. Blue Lives Matter.

I’ve completed another pass through the novella I plan to publish. It is now 23,600 words, still in the neighborhood of an hour’s read. I’m hoping it will be only one more reading before I submit it to Amazon and order a proof copy. Of course, I’ve already thought of a line that should be included: If consensual sex was a sin, he was going to hell.
