Bobby & Cindy
RIP Bobby Hull, 84, one of hockey’s all-time greats. Born in Ontario, he joined the Blackhawks at 18 in 1957. By his third season he led the NHL in goals and points, a feat he would accomplish twice more. He was a member of Chicago’s 1961 Stanley Cup championship. In 15 seasons he was First-Team All-Star ten times, Second-Team twice, and league MVP twice. Dubbed The Golden Jet, his skating speed was just short of 30 mph and his slap shot clocked at 118.3 mph. He scored 610 goals. Unhappy with his salary, he jumped to the fledgling WHA in ’72. He scored 303 goals in nine seasons, all but one with the Winnipeg Jets. A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, he ranked eighth on The Hockey News’ 1998 list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame. A father of five, his legacy is tainted by domestic violence issues. His son Brett scored 741 NHL goals. Bart played in the Canadian Football League. Photo from Google Images:
RIP Cindy Williams, 75, best known for her turn in 158 episodes of Laverne & Shirley. She also directed an episode of the beloved sitcom, her only credit in that category. Born in southern California, half Sicilian on her father’s side, her career spanned 1970–2020. There are 85 titles under her name at IMDb. She appeared in 13 episodes of Normal Life, 31 of Getting By, and made multiple and single guest shots on a host of primetime fare. She had roles in three significant films: Travels with My Aunt (1972), American Graffiti (1973) and The Conversation (1974). She has three credits as a co-producer: Stealing Roses (2012), in which she starred, and both Steve Martin’s Father of the Bride flicks. She was a mom of two, son and daughter. Well done, madam. Thank you. Photo from GI:
Fun headline from foxnews.com: “Front-row seats to Bernie Sanders’ anti-capitalism speech in DC cost nearly $100 on Ticketmaster.”
Not much action at the floating book shop on this overcast day that saw the session curtailed by flurries. My thanks to the young man who bought Way to the Quran by Khurram Murad, and to the Lady Eve, who downloaded Coincidence to her Kindle and said she enjoyed it. She suggested I write a novel about one of the characters who passed away ten years prior to the start of the novella. I don’t see it happening.
