In addition to the political rancor, scandals and carnage worldwide, today’s NY Post has three pieces on interesting new books. Kevin D. Williamson is a frequent contributor to the op-ed page. Today he submitted an excerpt from his work of non-fiction:

Larry Getlen summarizes a fascinating tome devoted to the 1815 eruption of an Indonesian volcano that affected the entire planet:

Hailey Eber delves into a bio of one of the most interesting celebrities ever:

From the Weird But True column, edited by yours truly: A Turkish woman suffering extended post-operative pain was convinced the doctor had left an instrument inside her. She proved it by placing a magnet on her back, which remained in place.

Yankees’ dominate MLB’s record books, almost exclusively on positive performances. Not so this week. Their pitchers just completed the worst stretch the American League has ever seen: seven days, seven games, 73 runs allowed, 23 home runs. Looks like the Bronx Bombers are going to have to package a few of their talented young players to acquire pitching, or simply try to slug their way to a championship.

Sasha’s grandma delivered the last load today. Actually, she wanted to bring one more, but I declined, which turned out to be right, as the old Hyundai is crammed. My thanks to the gentleman who bought Goldeneye: Where Bond Was Born: Ian Fleming’s Jamaica by Matthew Parker. Why anyone would be interested in such a book is beyond me, but in the past the guy, who wears the same clothes all the time, has asked for 007 and Eric Ambler’s novels, the latter of which have yet to make their way to the floating book shop. My thanks also to the gentleman who purchased two of Sasha’s books. Here’s a pic of today’s Russian sector, minus the section to the left where Anne Rice is prominently displayed. 95% of these books came from SG the past two weekends. All the best, madam. Thank you:
