Brevity
“Brevity is the soul of wit,” said Polonius through the Bard in Hamlet, Act Two, Scene Six. Here are Song Lyrics With The Fewest Amount Of Words compiled by Jesse Singer at msm.com, edited by yours truly. I choose only the familiar. Repeated words don’t count:
Soul Finger — Bar-Kays (Jimmy King · Phalon Jones/Carl Cunningham/Ben Cauley/Ronnie Caldwell/James Alexander), two words.
Tusk — Fleetwood Mac (Lindsey Buckingham), 28.
I Feel Love — Donna Summer (Giorgio Moroder/Pete Bellotte), eleven.
I Want You (She’s So Heavy) — The Beatles (Lennon–McCartney, actually Lennon), twelve.
Why Don’t We Do It In The Road? -- The Beatles (Lennon–McCartney, actually McCartney), 14.
Tommy Can You Hear Me — The Who (Pete Townshend), 13.
No One To Depend On — Santana (Mike Carabello/Coke Escovedo/Gregg Rolie), 15.
You Are So Beautiful — Joe Cocker (Billy Preston/Bruce Fisher), 14.
One Step Beyond — Madness (Prince Buster, Ska Musician), 40. I’m surprised it has more than the titular three.
Rockit — Herbie Hancock (Michael Beinhorn/Bill Laswell/Hancock), four.
Low Rider — War (Entire Band), 27.
Tequila — The Champs (Chuck Rio), one.
Pick Up The Pieces — Average White Band (Entire Group), six.
Fly Robin Fly — Silver Convention (Sylvester Levay/Stephan Prager), six.
The Hustle — Van McCoy, four.
Wipe Out — The Surfaris (Bob Berryhill/Pat Connolly/Jim Fuller/Ron Wilson), two.
Is There Anybody Out There? — Pink Floyd (Roger Waters), five.
One Of These Days — Pink Floyd (David Gilmour/Roger Waters/Richard Wright/Nick Mason & possibly Polly Sampson) twelve… Photo from Google Images:
No wind, so the lack of sunshine didn’t matter. It was a pleasant stay for the Anti-Inflation Book Shop, and the return was excellent. My thanks to the buyers. Here’s what sold: two large hardcovers on Kabbalah in Russian, four cookbooks; two kids’ books; a dictionary; three novels in Russian; an audiobook version of Exile by Richard North Patterson; three pieces of 3D art. I’d been hiding two bags of Russian books in the garden. Today it was one, well-wrapped, as the forecast is for rain tonight. If they get damaged, I’ll leave them at the free kiosk, whose books I moved temporarily into the bus shelter.
Yours truly rendered by, I believe, Tom Arambarry.
