Buckethead & Others

Count Binface, aka Lord Buckethead, is running for mayor of London.

From foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: Rock star Billy Idol has teamed up with NYC Mayor Red Billy DeBlasio for a new campaign against automobile idling in the city. In 2018 the city instituted a bounty program that rewards snitches 25% of the fines collected, which start at $350 and run up to $2000 for repeat offenders. Take note: anyone idling for more than three minutes is at risk. I broke that barrier today and will heed it from now on, given the zealots that roam this town. What kind of rock star becomes an advocate for snitching? My guess is he was paid handsomely because of the Idol/idle factor. I will now be reminded of his treachery whenever I hear one of his songs, several of which I like, including Rebel Yell, which has now become ironic. I will not post a pic of him.

Also from FN, edited by yt: Crossroads is a multisite interdenominational megachurch in Cincinnati, the fourth largest and fastest growing in America as of 2017. It has partnered with RIP Medical Debt, a nonprofit, to wipe out $46.5 million in medical debt for more than 45,000 families in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. Sounds great. I’d love to hear pundits weigh in on this.

From an article at nypost.com, edited by yt: James Green, 19, grew up poor in Oakland, California, and started dealing drugs in high school. When local cobblers couldn’t fix his scuffed-up sneakers, he decided to start his own business, Fix My Kix. He has an app that connects customers to shoe restoration professionals, and a Facebook page. Kudos, young man. Here he is at work:

I’m really feeling stupid today. I received an email from Amazon informing me of errors in the book file of Open Outcries. Inside it I used the former title, Exchanges and its ISBN number rather than the one assigned the new version. Duh! I could have sworn I updated the latter. The former slip may reflect a subconscious desire to keep the original title, which was perfect, although I’m happy with the new one. Working on this has really gotten old. One good thing came out of it: the two corrections I made to the Word file yesterday will now be in both the print and Kindle versions. I’m not ordering another proof copy. I’ll risk that Amazon hasn’t botched the printing. It never has. I just received an email that the Kindle version is available. Maybe that’s a sign that the print version is finally up to snuff too.

No luck selling books on the street today. The session was characterized by people asking for titles I didn’t have: Alice in Wonderland, 1984, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, and anything by Sidney Sheldon. That’s the second consecutive Thursday goose egg, while all the days in between have been better than average — when it hasn’t rained, of course.
