Business as Unusual
The front page of the NY Post has once again struck gold, using a common political catchphrase to lampoon the former VP for his denials of knowledge of or participation in the General Flynn affair: “What did Joe know and when did he forget it?” Kudos.
Here’s a headline from nypost.com that takes life back to the 1930’s: “Lockdown-flouting speakeasies popping up throughout Manhattan.” From the Marx Brothers madcap satire on college football, Horsefeathers (1932), screenplay by Harry Ruby, Bert Kalmar, Arthur Sheekman, S.J. Perelman, Will B. Johnstone: “What’s the password? — Swordfish.” And in the words of Walter Winchell from various episodes of The Untouchables: “Ness knew…”
Here’s a Post picture of a recent flight from Newark to ‘Frisco that those who want to reopen the country might use to convince naysayers:
Here’s one of the NYC subway:
NY Governor Andrew Cuomo wants a $61 billion bailout from the Feds. I suggest a Go Fund Me campaign.
Here’s a foxnews.com headline that will surprise no one: “GOP victories from Tuesday’s special election races largely ignored by media.” They occurred in California and Wisconsin. Is it a preview of the November election?
How does the world get China to pay for the pandemic? The USA may have an edge. According to an article at foxbusiness.com, edited by yours truly: Tennessee-based American Bondholder Foundation holds $1.6 trillion of century-old Chinese debt, including interest, dating to before the founding of the communist People’s Republic of China. They were issued in 1912. When the Reds took over in 1949, the former government moved to Taiwan and, since Beijing claims Taiwan is part of China, U.S. officials believe it is responsible for the payment of that debt. It’s doubtful that it would come in a cash payment, but it may serve as a bargaining chip regarding the massive amount of U.S. debt China has purchased. What a coup it would be if President Trump could pull it off. Time to use The Art of the Deal.
