By the Numbers

The same folks responsible for the snafu at the Iowa caucuses want to run the health and energy industries. As kids in the five Burroughs used to say: “Do over.” The front page of today’s NY Post refers to the area as “Duh Moines.” Then again, the farce may not be due to incompetence but a ploy to again screw Bernie Sanders.

From an article at foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: According to a Gallup poll, President Trump’s job approval rating is now 49%. 94% of Republicans approve, 42% of independents, both numbers highs for his presidency.

RIP Green Packers legendary Hall of Fame DB Willie Wood, 83, centerpiece of all five of Vince Lombardi’s championship teams. He spent his entire 11-year career with the Packers and had 50 career interceptions counting the postseason. He was selected to the Pro Bowl eight times. He was First-team All-Pro five times, four times Second-team. He led the league in interceptions in 1962. He was named to the NFL 1960s All-Decade Team. Well done, sir.

Sprinkles put the kibosh on the floating book shop, so I addressed a couple of issues, one pressing, the other not. On Sunday my little fridge died. I’d had it for ten years or so. I put the milk, a big bottle of Pepsi and my green tea extract fix on my window sill to keep cool. Yesterday I asked our stellar super, Luis, if he had any around. He said he’d get back to me. Today, before heading to Best Buy, I decided to ask again. In one of the other buildings Eddie, who has given me books and DVDs in the past, had exactly what I wanted. It’s about 20% bigger than the one I had, and the freezer is more than twice as big, perfect for a single guy like me. He asked for $50. I didn’t bother to haggle. The fact that I didn’t have to clear out the books from the back seat of the old Hyundai, drag them to the apartment, and haul them back when the task was done made it worth it in itself. Luis hauled the item on a dolly and refused a tip. My thanks, gentlemen.

I’ve also begun preparing to self-publish Exchanges under a different title — Open Outcries. If I don’t hear from the publisher by March 1st, I’m going for it. I’m scanning the Word file for errors, more than halfway through. I won’t read the novel carefully until I get a proof copy. Hopefully I’ll only have to order one. There’s no hurry. Sales are very unlikely, even at what I expect will be a lower price, approximately $11 rather than $15. I always opt for the least expensive option. The Kindle will be a buck as opposed to two. I will post pictures of both covers whenever I advertise the book to prevent those who have already purchased it from doing so again. This morning I worked on the cover. I’m really happy with the photo I found in the KDP archive. The only problem is the back’s text. Any of the colors I experimented with seem partially lost in the background. Right now I’m going with green, as in dollars. Any comments would be appreciated.
