It’s Carpe Diem Day — seize it, brothers and sisters.

Read it and weep. Photo from Google Images:

They walk among us. Headline from nypost.com: “BLM co-founder says being a Taylor Swift fan is ‘slightly racist,’ Chiefs Super Bowl win was ‘white supremacist conspiracy’.” What, exactly, is “slightly racist”? A white supremacist conspiracy led by a Black QB?

From NYP: “Making $150K considered ‘lower middle class’ in these US cities.” According to the article by Kristen Altus, Fox Business: “… Arlington, Virginia; San Francisco; San Jose, California; Irvine, California; Seattle; Gilbert, Arizona; Plano, Texas; Scottsdale, Arizona; Washington, D.C.; and Chandler, Arizona.” I would have been in abject poverty my entire working years.

Headline from foxnews.com: “New federal policy gives Native American tribes power to veto green energy development.” Why not everybody?

Dumpster divers must be thrilled. From FN: “This AI robot garbage picker can sort over 500 types of trash in seconds.” Photo from GI:

Mad Vlad’s death toll. Headline from newsmax.com: “Zelenskyy: 31,000 Ukrainian Soldiers Died in Past Two Years.” And how many Russians have perished because of Putin’s folly?… And in a related story, from NM: “Western Europe No Longer Dependent on Russian Oil.” According to the article by Fran Beyer, the countries are importing from the USA, Canada and elsewhere. Kudos.

RIP former MLB pitcher José DeLeón, 63, who succumbed to cancer. Born in the DR, he was drafted by Pittsburgh and made his debut with the Pirates in 1983. He also had two stints with the White Sox and also played for the Cardinals, Phillies and Expos. The righthander led the NL in K’s while a member of St. Louis in ’89. He was a reliever the last three seasons of his career. Overall, his record was 86–119, ERA 3.76. He made one appearance in the post season, allowing one run in four+ innings as a member of the White Sox, who lost the ALCS to eventual World Series champion Toronto. To total that many losses in a career, one has to be talented enough to be given so many starts. He was a father of three. Well done, Sir. Facts from Wiki, photo from GI:

A few sprinkles early, then gorgeous weather moved in, making today’s session of the Anti-Inflation Book Shop a joy. My thanks to the woman who did a swap of Russian titles, and to the one who, as usual, overcompensated me, this time for translations of two volumes of Dickens; and to the young man who bought a hardcover in Russian with Bruce Willis on the cover; and to the young woman who purchased Baba Yaga Laid an Egg by Dubravka Ugrešić; and to the one who took home The Vampire Is Just Not That Into You by Vlad Mezrich and this:
