Civility & More
From an article at foxnews.com: Pretenders’ front-woman Chrissie Hynde sent several successive tweets to President Trump recently. She caught some flak from liberal purists. Here they are as one: “I often think of how much my father, Melville ‘Bud’ Hynde, who proudly served his country as a Marine on Guadalcanal, would have enjoyed your Presidency. The other day when you gave that award to Rush Limbaugh, my father would have been so delighted. He loved listening to Rush, which is why I allowed my song, My City Was Gone, to be used on his radio show. My father and I didn’t always see eye-to-eye. We argued a lot. But isn’t that the American way? The right to disagree without having your head chopped off? Soon, I will be participating in a protest in London against the extradition of Julian Assange. I know my father would be mortified, but I feel strongly enough to do it. What I believe is the right thing; to protest further punishment of a man who sought to defend Freedom, albeit in a way you rightly disagree with. I know Mr. Assange broke the law (as i have done defending the treatment of animals) but I believe he has been duly punished and should now be set free. Please consider my plea.” Kudos, madam.
Also from FN, edited by yours truly: “A group of frustrated Oregon conservatives, who have tried everything from voting out Democratic state officials they consider too liberal to recalling the state’s governor and appealing to their Washington representatives, now want to leave the state — by moving the border with neighboring Idaho westward. The group, Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho, has secured initial approval from two counties and has set a goal of getting enough signatures to put the proposal on local ballots in November. It’s a long shot, as the move would require approval from Congress as well as the Idaho and Oregon state legislatures.” Still, this is a great example of how a Republic should go about business. Kudos.
They’re baaack!
RIP Kellye Nakahara, 72. She appeared in 167 episodes of MASH, always a positive background presence who rarely had any dialogue. There are 20 other titles listed under her name at IMDb. Born in Hawaii, she was married from 1968 until her death and brought two children into the world. She was also an artist. Thank you, madam. Here’s a pic of her in character, followed by one of her watercolors:
I expected the floating book shop to be rained out today. When it was still dry at ten-thirty, I decided to give it a shot. Since I anticipated having to pack up in a hurry, I put out only about a quarter of the wares, the most marketable. I even left my own books in the car. My thanks to the woman who bought three novels: Triple by Ken Follett, Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross, and historical fiction on Maria Callas, the title of which I was unable to track down, something like Divina. My thanks also to Barry, child of the ‘60’s who grew frustrated whenever his students scoffed at his opinion of the greatest rock n roll band ever. He overcompensated me for The Love You Make: An Insider’s Story of the Beatles by Peter Brown & Steven Gaines. Because of their longevity and success, I believe the GOAT is/are The Rolling Stones. Formed in 1962, they’re still at it. I doubt any other rock band will ever even approach this incredible run.
