RIP wildly successful producer/director/writer Ivan Reitman, whose work entertained billions. Born in Czechoslovakia, his mom was an inmate at Auschwitz and his dad was an underground resistance fighter. His family arrived in Canada when he was four. He graduated from Hamilton’s McMaster University with a degree in music. While in college he produced and directed many short films. He worked a while in Toronto before moving to Hollywood. His career spanned 1968 to the present, eight of his productions yet to be released. He directed Meatballs (1979), Stripes (1981), Ghostbusters (1984) and its Ray Parker video, Kindergarten Cop (1990), and 20 other titles. Among the 74 titles he produced are National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978) and Up in the Air (2009), which was directed by his son Jason, each receiving an Oscar nomination. His daughter Catherine has been highly successful, mostly in TV, acting, directing, producing and writing. His daughter Caroline has also dabbled in the biz. He occasionally worked in theater. In 1983 he was nominated for two Tonys for Merlin, as Best Director (Musical) and as one of the co-producers. He has seven credits as a writer. He has also done cinematography and editing. Hillary directed people to spy in Trump Towers and the White House? I’m shocked, shocked — shocked as Claude Rains was in Casablanca (1942). She should be forced to reimburse the government for the cost of all the investigations her shenanigans spawned. The snail-like Durham investigation has finally exposed a big fish. Hopefully this will once and for all derail any hope she has of another potential presidential run, although I’m sure about half the country would still vote for her, the same folks who elected a candidate with an egregious record on race, a history of lying, plagiarism and enriching himself through influence peddling, and zero political accomplishments. Imagine the mainstream media uproar if it had been Trump spying on Hillary.

Here’s a “don’t get your hopes up” headline from foxnews.com: “Durham probe has ‘accelerated,’ with more people ‘cooperating,’ coming before grand jury.” More slaps on the wrists on tap.

I opened the floating book shop an hour later than usual, waiting until the sunshine bathed my nook. The wind was just strong enough to negate any warmth. I sat in the car just about the entire session, and closed up a half hour early. No surprise, only one person gave the display a serious look. Unfortunately, he didn’t find anything to his liking. A lot of males passed carrying bouquets, including Sam, who is just about done with Curious Sicilian and had nice things to say about it.

This morning I received the sad news that this blog’s biggest supporter has succumbed to cancer. Denise and I were aides at John Dewey High School in the late ‘70’s. I had not heard from her from circa 1980 until the past few years when I received a friend request at Facebook. I was informed by her best friend, to whom I’ve devoted many pages in my books, and who dubbed Denise “my hero” for the way she battled back from a stroke. My condolences to her three sons and to Peggy, who is taking it hard. Rest in peace, Denise, knowing you are loved.
