One of life’s mantras is “Do as I say, not as I do,” which totalitarians like NYC Mayor Red Billy DeBlasio practice more regularly than most folks. He will not reopen NYC beaches but expects others to fill his void, as this headline at nypost.com manifests: “New Yorkers should be allowed on Long Island beaches, de Blasio says.”… Here’s a headline that makes one wonder what future tax rates will be: “U.S. births fall to lowest number in 35 years; coronavirus may lower it even more.”… Here’s one that I hope begins a trend: “MTA rolling out 230 virus-killing UV lamps on NYC subways and buses.” I don’t understand why entrepreneurs haven’t jumped on this, tried to produce it on a mass scale, or why the President hasn’t installed them in the White House and other Trump venues. It seems there’s a lot of money to be made… Here’s a headline from businessinsider.com: “The UK is bulk-buying millions of hydroxychloroquine tablets in case Trump is right that it works against the coronavirus.” Many, including Dr. Oz, say it reduces symptoms dramatically when taken early in the process… Here’s the most amusing headline of the day, from foxnews.com: “Biden, amid Reade allegations, hires aide who said candidates should not run if accused of sexual misconduct.”… Great news from Yahoo Sports — the U.S. Open golf tournament will be played in September — no fans present…
I’ve completed another proofing of the novella on which I’m working. The word count has risen to the neighborhood of 21,600, which makes it about an hour’s read, give or take a few minutes either way, depending on the individual. The creative aspect is 99% complete. Now revision begins in earnest. I’ll let it sit until Monday. Here’s the cover I came up with using Amazon’s tools. I’m hoping I can change the color scheme to maroon and white — fight, fight, fight!:
As I was hanging out by my car this afternoon, a woman gave me seven books in Russian, several of which she’d bought from me. My thanks. When people ask when the book shop will return, I say: “I’m hoping July first.” Given the Empire State’s leaders, that’s probably way too optimistic.
