In an op-ed piece in today’s NY Post, Ben Shapiro defends Judeo-Christian beliefs and Greek law, which he argues made America great. He’s been a critic of both Hillary and President Trump. In 2016 he delivered a speech at Cal. St. U. in L.A.. He describes the event:
As we approached the campus, we could see helicopters swirling overhead. Dozens of armed, uniformed police quickly formed a cordon and rushed me through the back door.
A few rioters were physically assaulting students who wanted to enter; the police set up a back-door route but could only sneak students in two at a time. I put my ear to the auditorium door; it sounded like a zombie apocalypse outside.
We decided to go ahead, despite the mostly empty auditorium. As the speech progressed, students pulled the fire alarm; the lights went out, and the alarm began beeping loudly. Students continued pounding the doors outside. I spoke through the discord, announcing that the disrupters wouldn’t stop us from exercising our free-speech rights.
Afterwards, police officers sneaked me out, ushered me into a tinted-window black van and guided me from the campus with a police escort flashing their lights.
So, what went wrong? I found out later that a professor on campus had been telling her students that I was a white supremacist, that I was akin to a Ku Klux Klan member, that I was a Nazi (I’m just wearing the yarmulke as deep cover, apparently). The students had believed their professors, and they had reacted accordingly. The value of speech had been overthrown in favor of a subjective rage that had nothing to do with facts.
His book, The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great, is about to be published.
I figured it would happen eventually. I got nailed by a speed camera, doing 36 mph near Cavallaro JHS at 10:56 AM, no one in sight. I usually avoid school zones, as it’s so easy to forget the restrictions, especially when there is much to contemplate. Maybe I was hustling to catch the light at 24th Avenue, hardcore criminal that I am. The fine, $50, was paid for with invisible funds of my checking account, barely making a dent it. Still, I hate giving money to the government, knowing it will go to the undeserving. The check is already in the mail. That’s life in Red Billy’s NYC. I’m 68, and it’s only the second moving violation I’ve ever had. The other was decades ago, a left I had no idea was illegal at 5th Avenue and 86th. I’ve never had an accident — knock wood.
Here’s part eight of President Trump’s accomplishments as listed at the WOR radio web page of Mark Simone, edited by yours truly:
Held a historic summit with Chairman Kim Jong-Un. Since then, the leaders have exchanged letters and high-level officials from both countries have met. North Korea has so far halted nuclear and missile tests.
The remains of POW/MIA service members from the Korean War are being returned to the USA.
Helped secure the passage of historic UN sanctions on North Korea.
Recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Withdrew the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council due to bias against Israel.
The Administration made clear that it does not accept the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction over Americans and will continue to protect America’s sovereignty.
Changes allowed the UN to cut hundreds of millions of dollars from its budget.
Encouraged NATO members to increase defense spending. In 2017 there was an increase of more than 4.8% for it among our allies.
Convinced NATO to strengthen counter-terrorism activities, and the organization formally joined the coalition to defeat ISIS.
Imposed sanctions on Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, and on more than 200 individuals and entities related to Russia’s destabilizing activities.
Enhanced support for Ukraine’s defense by stepping up sales of weapons to its military.
Secured the release of numerous American citizens held abroad, including Pastor Andrew Brunson from Turkey and Josh Holt from Venezuela.
It was quiet at the floating book shop on this glorious late winter day. My thanks to the two ladies who bought three books in Russian between them.
