Crosby & More

RIP David Crosby, 81, founding member of both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, bands that sold more than 35 millions albums. Among the songs he wrote with that first group, Eight Miles High, which still sounds fresh today. For CSN he wrote Almost Cut My Hair and the title track of the Deja Vu album. Five discs to which he contributed are included in Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. He also released six solo albums, five of which charted. Additionally, he formed a jazz-influenced trio with his son. He is known for having employed alternative guitar tunings and jazz influences. Among the artists he worked with, singing harmony and background vocals, after the band broke up, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Dave Mason, James Taylor, Art Garfunkel, J. D. Souther, Carole King, Elton John, Gary Wright, Grace Slick, Hot Tuna, Phil Collins, Lucinda Williams and David Gilmour. He was the subject of the documentary film David Crosby: Remember My Name (2019). He also did some acting, appearing in Backdraft (1991) and Hook (1991), and various TV shows and music videos. He was a father of six, two of the children through artificial insemination with Melissa Etheridge. His music will live on. Facts from Wiki, photo from Google Images:

Headline from nypost.com: “Standing guard: Armed Houston bar owners sleeping in businesses to keep thieves away.” SMH.

Also from NYP: “You, the New York voter, are to blame for city’s and state’s headlong rush to disaster.” Agree.

A fed up Frisco gallery owner is under fire for taking action against a homeless person camped out in front of his business. Yes, his action was cold and nasty, but he is not being shown the compassion society’s renegades receive. Photo from GI:

Two excerpts from an NYP editorial on the “Green Religion” by John Stossel: “Putting garbage in landfills is often much cheaper than recycling. My town would save $340 million a year if it just stopped recycling.” And: “Plastic is not evil. Recycling is no climate savior. When Los Angeles mandated it, it added 400 big noisy garbage trucks. That creates lots of pollution.” Of course, no matter now much sense this makes, it will fall on deaf ears.

Headline from foxnews.com: “Biden tanked Jimmy Carter’s nominee for CIA over mishandled classified docs.” But that was different, you see.

Another win for the good guys, headline from FN: “Ohio teen stops burglary by pointing mother’s gun at home intruder: ‘My baby has become my protector’.” No shots fired, suspect later arrested. Kudos, kiddo.

My thanks to the kind folks who bought, donated and swapped books during a session that began in beautiful though windy conditions that evolved to sprinkles. Here’s what sold: four books in Chinese, one in Russian; Dialogues of Plato; Brown Water, Black Berets: Coastal and Riverine Warfare in Vietnam by Thomas J. Cutler; Zero: The Story of Japan’s Air War in the Pacific — As Seen BY The Enemy by Masatake Okumiya, Jiro Horikoshi and Martin Caidin.
