My favorite love song rotates between Norah Jones’ version of The Nearness of You, Music Hoagy Carmichael, Lyrics Ned Washington; and the Neville Brothers’ version of In the Still of the Night, Words and Music Cole Porter (not the classic Do-Wop song of the same title). Both were written in the late 1930’s. There have been times I was in danger of crashing the car, my eyes filling with tears at the incredible beauty of these tracks. My favorite movie about love (and so much more): West Side Story (1961); my favorite literary work: Romeo and Juliet, which Franco Zeffirelli captured magnificently in his 1968 adaptation.
