Curious

Puerto Rico may longer want to be a state. It has become a haven for cryptocurrency entrepreneurs. According to an article at nypost.com by Mark Ellwood, taxes and red tape have been minimized. Those who spend 183 days on-island are free of taxes on capital gains. The boom began after Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017. People left and property prices on the tropical paradise plunged. If the good times continue, why would residents want to be tied to the criminals in DC?

Here’s an interesting development on the abortion front. According to an NYP article on India by Samantha Ibrahim: “An estimated 46 million fetuses and counting have been aborted in the country over the last 50 years — all because they would have been born female.” Unintended consequences are always fascinating.

According to an article at foxnews.com by Emma Colton on the New York state vax mandate: “31,858 health care workers at nursing homes, hospitals and other health providers have been terminated, furloughed or forced to resign because they would not comply…” Quid Pro Joe has called on service medical staff to help out.

I’m debating whether to upload the Curious Sicilian file to Amazon. There’s an error I was unable to correct involving a sentence that will not reach the margin, and there is residue from the infuriating battle to add page numbers. Although I divided the text into sections, the first has page numbers, and if I try to erase them, every number in the book gets wiped out. No doubt there are a number of errors I’ve missed, which will be spotted more easily in a printed proof. Raising the font to 14 point brought the page count to 231. It will read like a lot less, in the neighborhood of two-and-a-half hours total. There are nine short stories, twelve works of non-fiction and two poems. It is not good poetry. I used them to enforce character, to show state of mind. I couldn’t get the cover exactly as I wanted, but it will do. Hey, it’s free. Here it is. The umbrella the figure is holding is not visible. There’s no way to lower the image. One template was perfect except for the fact it didn’t allow text.

I worked very hard today at the floating book shop, as my car was the third spot from the corner. The back and forth was tough, and I was probably stupid for having put out so much stuff. Fortunately I didn’t have a heart attack, it wasn’t cold and a lot of people bought. Here’s what sold: The Gold Coast by Nelson Demille, Decanting Murder by Nadine Nettmann; An English Murder by Cyril Hare; Murder at Beechwood by Alyssa Maxwell; a kids book; a Patti Smith pictorial; two CDs; the entire cache of video games; Mars and Venus in the Bedroom: A Guide to Lasting Romance and Passion by John Gray; a low carb guide; Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown by Anne Glenconner; Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters by Andrew Morton; and The Cognitive Behavioral Workbook for Anxiety: A Step-By-Step Program by William J. Knaus EdD and Jon Carlson PsyD EdD ABPP. Thanks, folks.
