As Alice said. So goes life, a mad wonderland.

Karma, Kramer, from a headline at foxnews.com: “Des Moines Register reporter out for old racist tweets after digging up tweets of Iowan philanthropist.” And how about this, from the same source: “Tom Brady’s popularity tied to rise in ‘white rage and white supremacy,’ professor says.” He is Kyle Kusz, who may replace documentary filmmaker Ken Burns as the poster boy for white guilt.

Just what the world needs — personalized candy bars. They will be available at outlets of the KitKat Chocolatory in the UK. Each will start at about $17. I love chocolate, but not that much. Here’s a pic:

From FN: “The Green Party in Canada has admitted to using an image on their website of leader Elizabeth May drinking out of a reusable cup with a metal straw that actually was doctored with Photoshop.” Here she is, caught green-handed:

Headline from Yahoo Sports: “Fair or foul?: Rangers let popup drop so Mike Minor could reach 200 strikeouts.” It’s a far cry from that day in 1941 when Ted Williams refused to sit out to protect his .400 BA. He insisted on playing in both ends of the doubleheader and finished at .406.

Evil premiered last night on CBS at ten PM. It’s the story of a single mom of four daughters, a psychologist, recruited by an aspiring priest investigating demons and such. She is hired because of her skepticism, to provide balance. The only cast member I recognized is Michael Emerson, who seems to be working on the dark side as he did in Lost, in contrast to his work on Person of Interest. The first installment was okay. Whether I stay with it will probably depend on whether it concentrates on individual cases or goes on one of those tortuously long arcs.

I’ve begun the first of what I hope will be only three rounds of proofing of the Word file of the novel I plan to self-publish in January. I don’t anticipate any problems until I’m ready to submit it to Amazon. It will come in at approximately 315 pages in ten point font. For some reason a book more than 300 creates a problem I haven’t understood how to rectify, that only a reduction in font solved previously. I don’t think I’ll find 15 pages worth of stuff I’ll want to drop, and going to eight point would be ridiculous, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to figure out what baffled me about the process in the past.

Business dropped off considerably compared to the previous two sessions of the floating book shop. My thanks to the woman who bought a kids’ book, and to the one who purchased a book in Russian; and to Barry, who grossly overpaid for a thin pictorial from the Led Zeppelin CD box set. He was in a great mood, as the state sent his lawyer a check for 50 grand, which will help cover his legal costs. A professor of criminology, he recently retired from John Jay College, where he and several colleagues stand accused of sexual harassment… Also of interest was a conversation I had with Alan, who’s a month shy of his 75th birthday. He’s a retired cabbie whose back was broken in an accident. He battled severe pain for years. At one point he was taking morphine in pill form, percocet and oxycontin at the same time. It didn’t help, nor did heat patches. Finally, he found something that did — marijuana. He says he feels great, and recommended it to a 93-year-old man who I see all the time out on his own without an attendant. The poor guy’s afraid of it. Alan also mentioned his 97-year-old aunt, who their cardiologist says is in great shape. He has power of attorney of her affairs. One of her dictates is that she wants to be resuscitated. We both laughed out loud.
