Diane & More
RIP actress Diane McBain, 81, always a lovely presence. Born in Cleveland, her career spanned 1959–2001. There are 73 titles under her name at IMDb, most in TV. Her bio states: “Diane proved popular with the teen set with her devilish debutantes and snobby sophisticates…” She wasn’t like that in real life, accompanying Bob Hope on one of his USO tours of South Vietnam in 1966/67. She did 45 episodes of Surfside 6, nine of 77 Sunset Strip, 20 of Days of Our Lives, eleven of General Hospital and four of Batman, to cite a few. Her big screen highlight is Spinout (1966), opposite Elvis. In 1982 she was a victim of rape. She did not let that stop her and even became a counselor. Married once briefly, she was a mom of one. Well done, Madam. Thank you. Photo from Google Images:
How is this allowed? Headline from nypost.com: “Legal face-off: Dolan’s facial ID tech snags another lawyer who says he was booted from Knicks game.” The same happened recently to an attorney attending a Radio City event. Shades of Big Brother. Scary stuff. Dolan seems like one of the most despicable human beings going.
Also from NYP: “Bottoms up! Champagne makers pop corks on record $6.5B in 2022 sales despite inflation.” The world’s winners have a lot to celebrate.
Will there be a more amusing headline in today’s news than this one from NYP?: “I used to be a pretzel store worker — now my ‘voluptuous’ butt makes me $99K a month.” Apparently not Veri-Thin.
Snippet from an NYP editorial: Caving to gun control activists, the CDC scrubbed “a 2013 National Academies of Sciences report showing that the annual number of defensive gun uses ranged from about 64,000 to 3 million.” Why would anyone be surprised? What the hell happened to free speech?
Chalk one up for the good guys, headline from foxnews.com: “California Marine recruiters help take down smash and grab suspects in Los Angeles-area mall.” Semper Fi. Kudos.
Good news for Dems, third quarter GDP was revised upward from 2.9 to 3.2%. Their winning streak continues outside the fiasco at the southern border.

With rain on the way, I displayed only a modest amount of the inventory at today’s session of the floating book shop. It was open a bit more than an hour before the sprinkles started. My thanks to Cabbie, who donated a paperback thriller, and to the woman who bought The American Heritage Concise Dictionary; and to the one who called her husband on her cell phone to tell him about a certain book in Russian, which she purchased. Not much cash, but gravy, having expected to be rained out.
