Dimensions
Cue the music. “When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars…” sang The Fifth Dimension (Ragni, Rado, MacDermot Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In from Hair), a #1 hit for six weeks in 1969. The phenomenon is called The Parade of Planets. Earth surely needs the “…peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars” mentioned in the song. It didn’t happen back in the day and it would be a miracle if it happened today, but one can always hope. Photo from Google Images.
Headline from nypost.com: “‘Hero of Ukraine’: The drone that saved Kyiv was piloted by 15-year-old boy.” He relayed photos and coordinates to artillery units. Kudos, young man. Photo from GI:
Also on the warfront, NYP headline: “Putin’s mercenary dubbed ‘The Executioner’ killed by Ukrainian sniper: reports.” He was a member of Vlad’s feared private army.
RIP Jim Seals, one half of Seals and Crofts, fellow Texans, who had three top ten hits in the ‘70’s, Summer Breeze, Diamond Girl and Get Closer, all co-written by the pair. Oddly, all three peaked at #6 on the Billboard Top 100. The duo also did several tunes that cracked the Adult Contemporary chart. The Summer Breeze album went double platinum in ’72, Diamond Girl gold in ’73, Unborn Child gold in ’74, despite the title track of the latter being anti-abortion. The duo disbanded in ’80, although they occasionally performed thereafter. They reunited officially twice, releasing the album Traces in 2004. In a great bit of trivia, both men and Glen Campbell were once members of The Champs, post Tequila. Seals was proficient with several instruments, including piano, sax and drums. At nine he won the state fiddle championship. He is a father of three. Well done, sir. Thank you.
I don’t doubt Matthew McConaughey’s sincerity, but I wonder how many characters his own have killed on screen through the years. Hollywood frequently glorifies violence and the public, including me, eats it up. Does it add fuel to the violence in America? It may, but it certainly isn’t the only factor.
This morning talk radio host Mark Simone offered a fun anecdote, claiming Frank Sinatra was surprised upon meeting U2’s Bono for their duet of Cole Porter’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin. He expected it to be Cher’s husband! It sounds fictitious, but I love it.
Tonight at eight Democrats and their mainstream media allies will launch their latest salvo to keep Trump off the 2024 ballot, broadcasting the January 6th hearing in prime time. One aspect will certainly not be reported. On 1/4 the President requested 20,000 troops to protect DC. It was denied by Pelosi.
Not much action at the floating book shop on this pleasant day. My thanks to the gentleman who bought What’s Your Type of Career: Find Your Perfect Career by Using Your Personality Type by Donna Dunning; and to Revilo/Oliver, who purchased American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War On America by Chris Hedges and The Fast Metabolism Diet: Eat More Food and Lose More Weight by Haylie Pomroy; and to actor/singer Johnny Socks, who visited for a bit, relieving the tedium.
