Dispensing

These are times that try men’s souls — and wallets, even on Optimist Day, among the many celebrations of February 1st.

Colossus of Constantine, Rome, will go on public display next week. REUTERS photo by Remo Casilli:

Headline from nypost.com: “New state-mandated tampon dispenser in CT high school boys’ bathroom ripped down in just 20 minutes: principal.” Expect Big Brother to install a security cam.

From NYP: “Prime real estate: Gen Z, millennials are becoming homeowners — thanks to $30K tiny homes on Amazon.” According to the article by Asia Grace, a recent purchase was 16.5-by-20-feet. It has a kitchenette, living room, bedroom and bathroom and a pre-installed toilet and shower. One problem: an owner will have to buy a plot on which to put the house, and I’m sure there will be other expenses, but the cost will likely come in at less than a hundred grand. Sounds good. Photo from Google images, not the house mentioned above:

Although I’d be skeptical of anything a swamp reptile says, this headline from newsmax.com bears noting: “FBI Director Wray: Chinese Hackers Determined to ‘Wreak Havoc’.” They unleashed Covid, which killed millions and undid their fiercest deterrent, Trump. Now this.

When bad policy leads to a high level of crime, play the card. Headline from foxnews.com: “‘Squad’s Rep. Pressley accuses Walgreens of racism for closing another store in Boston.”

From FN: “Comedian Larry David crashes NBC’S ‘Today’ set to beat up Elmo.” Photo from GI:

A dollop of sunshine marked the only difference in weather at today’s session of the floating book shop. My thanks to Sam, who donated Being Henry, an autobio by Henry Winkler, and to Herbie, who pounced on it minutes later, along with Manner of Death by Robin Cook; and to the woman who bought Disclosure by Michael Crichton; and to the two gentlemen who combined to purchase three DVDs in Russian.
