A California couple is breeding a kind of dog similar to those used as guards by the Roman Empire. Puppies are being sold for $5000. The waiting list is long. Here’s a pic of one behemoth, an American Molossus, which exceeds 200 pounds:

An Australian man noticed another in the vicinity of his home, holding a bow and arrow. Naturally in this age, he began filming with his cell phone. The other guy didn’t like it and launched an arrow that struck the phone, driving it into the filmer’s chin, causing a cut. The shooter was arrested. Here’s a pic:

The world must be coming to an end. I actually agree with one of NYC mayor Red Billy’s proposals — the building of land barriers to protect Manhattan from high seas and future storms.

According to an article in today’s NY Post, 11.8 million U.S. households are worth $1+ million, a rise of 3% from the previous year. The figure has climbed ten straight years, although the rate of growth is slowing.

Also in th Post: To provide incentive for star players to participate in the Home Run Derby during the all-star break, MLB officials have upped the top prize to a million bucks.

Here is part six of President Trump’s accomplishments as listed at the WOR webpage of Mark Simone, edited by yours truly:
Signed the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, the largest and most comprehensive legislative package addressing a single drug crisis in history.
Helped secure a record $6 billion in funding to fight the opioid epidemic.
Provided more than $2 billion in grants in 2018 to help States, territories, tribes, and local communities prevent and treat opioid abuse.
Pursued scientific solutions to prevent and treat addiction through the Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative.
Created a Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, which recommends ways to tackle the issue.
Secured first-ever indictments against Chinese nationals for fentanyl trafficking.
The DOJ formed a Joint Criminal Opioid Darknet Enforcement team and shut down the biggest Darknet distributor of drugs.
DOJ announced the largest health care fraud take down in history, arresting more than 120 defendants for opioid-related crimes.
Launched a Safer Prescribing Plan that seeks to cut nationwide opioid prescription fills by one-third within three years.
Led four National Prescription Drug Take-Back Days, collecting a record-breaking 1837 tons of expired and unneeded prescription drugs.

The gas company took over my usual nook, so I took the floating book shop to Bay Parkway. My thanks to Sasha’s grandma, who bought a Samuel Becket reader and Thomas More’s Utopia; and to the woman who selected Stephen King’s Bag of Bones; and to the one who purchased Understanding Modern Art, and a beautiful pictorial on Paul Cezanne, whom she had mentioned to the art class she teaches only an hour before. She showed me a beautiful floral arrangement she painted recently, her first work in seven years. She does not understand the block she suffered. Somehow, traveling to Seagate helped unblock whatever was dogging her. Minutes after she left I was kicking myself for not having thought of taking a picture.
