Among the many things celebrated 11/19 is World Toilet Day. Heaven knows they are especially needed at present. The first flushable was invented way back in 1596 by Englishman Sir John Harington, a courtier of Queen Elizabeth I, hence the term John. I’d thought it was invented by Thomas Crapper, hence crap. He was merely a plumber, the subject of a 1969 fictional biography by New Zealand satirist Wallace Reyburn, not titled Full of Crap. Photo from GI:

Socialist vs. Socialists, headline from nypost.com: “House Dem leader Hakeem Jeffries condemns DSA after pro-Palestinian org targets him with ‘racist’ watermelon ad.” Crazy out there.

I continue to be pessimistic about Republican gains in 2024. Here’s something that flies in the face of that, from newsmax.com: “GOP Sweeps Elections in Louisiana.”

I was okay in math in high school, managing to pass Algebra, Intermediate Algebra and Geometry with ease. Some folks have a great gift for it. Case in point, the Dedekind number, named after the guy who discovered the first part of it in 1897. After three decades, with the assistance of a supercomputer, eggheads have discovered the ninth part, D(9), 42 digits long. D(8) was a mere 23. What’s it use? I tried to read up on it but was quickly lost. Photo from GI:

RIP humanitarian icon Rosalyn Carter, 96.

RIP actress/teacher/theater director Suzanne Shepherd, 89. Her background was the stage, but she did significant screen work as well. There are 41 titles under her name at IMDb, career spanning 1988–2023. She appeared in 20 episodes of The Sopranos. On the big screen she was in Mystic Pizza (1988), Working Girl (1988), Goodfellas (1990), Lolita (1997), Requiem for a Dream (2000). I was unable to find much bio info other than she was a mom of one. Well done, Madam. Photo from GI:

No sales at the floating book shop on this gorgeous day. My thanks to the young man who settled his tab.
