Droning On

Taking my morning walk at six AM, the ground and cars in my area of Brooklyn were almost completely dry, as if there’d been no more than average rainfall, while at least nine poor souls in other parts of NYC had lost their lives to the storm. Life often resembles a cruel lottery.

This alligator had just chowed down on a drone. Photo from Daily Mail:

What would a day be currently without a headline like this, from nypost.com: “Brazilian viper venom may become tool in fight against COVID, study shows.”

Every summer, working outdoors, I experience a period of merciless insect bites, the itching maddening. It has me tearing apart my bedding looking for bed bugs. This year it has evolved to a degree that at first scared the spit out of me. Yesterday I googled: “Can bug bites cause hives?” Yes, they do. Strangely, they break out overnight and disappear almost entirely by nine AM with the help of cold compresses. Both arms and my left side have been affected. Fortunately my face hasn’t been attacked. I supposed the cause is simply age diminishing the immune system, although I can’t help but wonder if it’s a by product of the vaccine. My chief worry is if the condition is somehow damaging to the heart, although I don’t feel any different other than being annoyed by the situation.

This blurb covering 2021 is from foxnews.com:

Apparently the stock markets like what is going on in America and around the world. Headline from FN: “S&P, Nasdaq hit record highs ahead of jobs data Friday.”

Here’s a smh headline from FN: “Biden helps secure Afghan border while unvetted migrants continue to pour into US from Mexico.”

The storm was followed by a picture perfect day. Eight of nine of today’s book sales were in Russian. Alice bought The Bone Bed by Patricia Cornwell. My thanks to all the buyers and to Wolf, who donated five paperbacks in Russian and three CDs, and to Thirsty Dave, lead singer of Western Caravan, who donated a work of non-fiction; and to the gentleman walking his dog, who delivered a thriller.
