Election Day

I reached the voting center at 5:45 AM. There were 75 or less people on line. I was out by 6:30. The line had stretched to around the block. Given my assumption that mail-in voting will seal the deal for Biden and the fact that voting in NYC is an exercise in futility for non-Democrats , I’m surprised I waited. I took my morning walk right after doing my civic duty and was surprised to see no line outside the JHS directly across the street from the end of Sheepshead Bay. A voter walked right in, no guard outside. If the election goes as I think it will, it will be the last time I will have voted. Once entrenched, there’s no reversing socialism, no matter how much damage it does. I’d expected it to arrive four years ago. The only way it could be again delayed is with a Trump victory and a boom economy that would see even a conservative like VP Mike Pence elected, even though he lacks the president’s dynamism. Then again, everyone in politics does. I still believe socialism in the USA is inevitable. That’s not advocacy on my part. I am an unabashed believer in capitalism. It simply follows the general trend that began with FDR. A friend who has tolerance for economic minutiae believes the nation’s troubles began with Woodrow Wilson. He anticipates financial Armageddon no matter who’s in power. I think it’s a possibility brought about by bipartisanship, the majority of Republicans being no different than Democrats. How else to explain a deficit/debt in excess of $20 trillion? Whatever. The only question is whether socialism will begin in January or the future. There are several unknown variables this cycle, the foremost being mail-in ballots. Even one of Sean Hannity’s pollsters had it going Biden’s way by an overwhelming margin. The next important is how many people blame Trump for Corona deaths. Another is whether the rioting and looting have turned many against the left. And there’s Biden’s obvious cognitive difficulties, which partisans dismiss knowing he is simply a figurehead. The question is whether the undecided will reject him because of it. This morning, talk radio host and Trump personal friend Mark Simone said the guy who has called every election right going back decades thinks Trump will snare 360 electoral college votes. We’ll know soon. A staffer at the public school where I cast my vote said I had to take the pen I was given. Was it a Corona precaution? If so, what about the folders that held the ballot? Are they discarded upon use? I left the pen in the lobby of our co-op, not wanting anything tied to politics in my possession. I’m glad no one offered me one of those ridiculous “I Voted” stickers. I respect those who protest by not voting. I may be among them tomorrow.

Here’s an awesome pic from foxnews.com. Beneath it was SWNS, perhaps accreditation:

There’s an article at FN about 20 or so celebrities who have said they will leave the country if Trump wins, many opting for Canada. Curious, I googled if any had vowed to flee if Biden is elected. I didn’t spot any articles on it.

Here’s an interesting headline from FN: “Beverly Hills spending $4.8M on ‘election-preparedness,’ including armed private security guards.”

I sold 20 books today at my usual nook, only one in English, My Name Is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok, purchased by a young woman who also bought two books in Russian. Spasibo to all the buyers.
