Everyday Calculus
Successful entrepreneurs find a way to reach consumers. An article by Yaron Steinbuch at nypost.com cites a Taiwanese math teacher who has hit the jackpot. Here are highlights in my own words: After failing to attract students to his youtube channel due to fierce competition at the site, he pondered what type of web venue college kids would visit. He turned to Pornhub, which allowed him to post his instructional videos, unlike two other porn sites he asked. He has drawn 1.9 million views and nearly 7000 subscribers to his account, dubbed Play Hard, Study Hard. He has posted 230 videos, and is fully dressed in each. He has earned $270,000 a year across multiple platforms. Kudos, sir.
And in an NYP headline that sort of relates to the above: “A tattooed Pete Davidson dildo is on the way for his horny fans.” And in a headline related to that: “‘SNL’ stud: How Pete Davidson became the Warren Beatty of his generation.” Wow, fast company.
Overkill? NYP headline: “Gun dealers selling AR-15 parts with ‘Let’s go Brandon’ and ‘F–k Joe Biden’.”
Here’s a wow headline from foxnews.com: “NJ truck driver Ed Durr on verge of upsetting state Senate president, longtime Dem leader.” He spent all of $183 on his campaign. He leads by thousands but don’t be surprised if the “uncounted” votes swing it back to the incumbent, the same thing that will see Murphy squeak by and keep his governorship.
I believe China and Russia are bad actors, but they did right in not attending the climate charade in Scotland.
I had internet connection problems again today that kept me off line until four PM. I now believe there’s a bug in my PC. I may have found a way around it by doing a system restore. I went back to 10/30. I may have to do it every day. One good thing came from my failure to get online. I finished the second draft of the non-fiction piece Laural in the book file I’m building. It ballooned to 15 pages. Man, it was fun. I’d forgotten some of what had gone down. The file is now 62 pages, still a long way from the 200 I’ve targeted. Michelle is on deck.
It was another successful day for the floating book shop. My thanks to Andy F Bomb, who donated The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, and to the gentleman who bought it; and to The Frenchman, who took home Discourse on Method and Meditations on First Philosophy by Rene Descartes, and plays by Aristophanes and Federico Garcia Lorca; and to Wolf, who selected You’ll Never Make Love in This Town Again, Hollywood dirt by Lois Lee, Jennie Louise Frankel, Terrie Maxine Frankel & Joanne Parrent; and to the woman who purchased a Russian translation of a mystery by James Hadley Chase, of whom I was embarrassed to admit I’d never heard; and to the gentleman who purchased translations of three volumes of Robert Heinlein’s work in Russian and a novel by Boris Akunin in the mother tongue. He also offered me a job. He’s creating a digital site and said he would even need a courier. I said I appreciated it but was done working for others.
Born in London, James Hadley Chase wrote scores of novels. He served in the Royal Air Force during WWII, editing its journal. More than 30 of his works were adapted to the screen in France. The only place his work failed to really resonate was America. He passed away at 78 in 1985. (Facts from Wiki)
