Collin Morikawa, 24, now has two legs of the career grand slam after winning the British Open today at Royal St. George — and he’s not even 25! He finished the tournament at -15, the lowest in history at the course, which has served as host 15 times. It was the Californian’s first appearance at the event, just as it was when he won the 2020 PGA Championship. Only Tiger Woods had accomplished the feat by that age. Kudos. Also of note: South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen was third after being second at both the PGA and the U.S. Open, which will have him in the running for golfer of the year. Here’s the champ:

The national plague continues. Headline from newsmax.com: “Four People Shot Outside Washington Nationals Baseball Stadium.” Is that a grand slam? The game was suspended in the sixth inning.

Another NM headline: “3 Texas Dems Who Fled for DC Test Positive for COVID.” I hope all the others, who smiled maskless for the camera on the flight out, had been vaxxed. Then again, their self-righteousness…

Stranger than fiction headline from foxnews.com: “Famous TV lawyer in Colorado pleads guilty to murder-for-hire plot targeting husband’s girlfriend.” She’s an animal rights attorney. Does she not consider humans animals? She and her husband were/are estranged, divorcing.

Not much action today at the floating book shop. It was a bit cooler and a nice breeze was blowing along Bay Parkway, but the humidity — stop already! My thanks to the woman who delivered a bag filled with kids books as I was packing up, and to the woman who’d earlier overcompensated me for three of said; and to the young man who bought a book in Russian. I may have more kids lit at present than some book stores do. Here’s one that sold:
